Karachi’s Shisha Culture

The shisha culture has really taken the city by storm. For those of you who don’t know what shisha is, its “an oriental tobacco pipe with a long flexible tube connected to a container where the smoke is cooled by passing through water” (Thankyou, Dictionary.com). Following the success of the hugely popular open-air Damascus, a number of shisha joints have opened in the city – including Cafe Shisha at Zamzama, Mezaaj in Clifton, and shisha is also served at the very popular chain Indulge, which has branches at Park Towers and Millennium Mall and at The Forum’s Time Out. Any given day, these outlets are filled with hordes of teenagers and young adults, getting high and exhaling clouds of flavored smoke. As a once-shisha-addict, I can safely say that it is a rather delightful way to pass your time, particularly if you’ve bunked off university to avoid being bored to death by a stuffy professor. If you’ve never smoked shisha before, I’d advise you to always eat something before you do, because the high you get on an empty stomach makes you experience grogginess like you’ve never known.

you should write a post on the growing culture of:

    1. khaadi

    2. coffee cafes and bakeries

    3. eating/ dine out/exquisite diners (cafe flo/limoncello/pompeii/aqua lounge/okra etc)

    would make equally good posts.

as for shisha. yes. but what surprises me is how people wll have shisha more cuz everyoneelse is doing it, instead of for the sake of enoying it.

I wish to inform all shisha lovers that the shisha is not regulated by any authorizing committee or government and it is in the hands of private profit seekers. There is nobody to check the content of the shisha smoke.. it could contain addictive elements such as drugs and could be potentially harmful to health. The sellers may be interested in getting the customers back to buy their shisha just by turning the customers into shisha addicts using drugs. I hope that you all should be careful before trying new products.. its better not try until you are completely sure that the product is safe.
