Good cooks never tell…

…yet the whole city knows the recipe. Yep, in the last 2 to 3 years I have seen at least 5 variations of KFC’s Zinger burger and some of them taste even better than the original one. Then we also have the CFCs and the AFCs and the what-not-FCs. So basically, this means that the burger is a hit! The franchise should take heart from the fact that itís ìsecretî recipe is a favourite among the Karachiites. It was only last week that I had the KayBeeís version of the zinger and sadly, it tasted nothing like the original thing. Yet I found a real competitor for the international food chain at some dhaaba type fast-food joint on University Road. Why shouldnít the locals go for the cheaper version, especially if it tastes better? Oh, how these food franchises wonder when our country will have effective copyright lawsÖ

Yes..go for the cheaper alternatives, id say. And we do the same here in farangi-land..for financial, and religious, reasons :p . But from the khi days, I’d much rather have that road-side wala stuff than being sat down in the fancy place.

Is it the black smoke or the swarming flies or even the occasional raindrops that add to the taste? Hafsa, you may comment :)

5 years ago when KFC started operating in Karachi there was a Mr. Big Mac bugger shop right next to Kaybees. It had a combo burger deal with a sandwich (burger) similar but better than Zinger in size and taste both. But it was cheaper too (included drink and fries in the same price)
