Ayub: Review

I went to see Ayub last night. Just like anathema commented on my previous post about the play, it’s a MUST SEE. You have to agree that a team of amatuers have put together a master piece. Everything from sound effects to set design to costumes is perfect. Not to mention the script had humour and satire in the perfect blend. So the bottom line: go watch the show! Thursday show has been cancelled because of elections, but there will be shows on Friday and Saturday. The tickets priced at Rs. 750 might seem a little high to some, but it’s worth every penny and you will agree with me after you watch the show. Besides, it’s a charity show so actually you are helping out the needy while getting quality entertainment.

damn it! i was planning to attend today. so what of people who have tickets to today’s play? its too good to enjoy only once. will definitely go for another viewing. hoti was par excellence, of course playing at capulet across Europe is no tiny feat. the set in Act 1 was impressive, thouough I was completely awestruck with the Sadequain replpica. Souond and thunder down to the flexibility in dialogue delivery was wonderful. Versatility is Hoti’s middle name, the dance sequence too brilliant. Bit vversatility was also present in Imad, who coould have had a more substance to his character. Love the way he piked up the painting and put it up. Brilliant. Absolutely brilliant. Simple, grand but not overtly opulent. Perfect balance of both.

Have been hearing great reviews and that coupled with the Rs. 400 price for students, makes me definitely want to go. I shall be watching on Friday, anyone else coming?

I would have preferred to go on saturday as well, unfortunately sources insist that Saturday’s show is only for the holders of an adult ticket (Rs. 750).

Can anyone please tell me about the duration of the play and when does it usually starts everyday?

the play lasts a perfect two hours without any intermission. there is a dance sequence between the act chhanges. timings say 8:15 but the curtains are raised at 8:40ish. though by that time you will find it difficult to get good seats. play ends around 10:40 or 10:50

Agreed, Hafsa, Hoti’s by far the most entertaining thing in the play. And the boy can dance too! :)
