Black Rag

While driving home from work I have repeatedly noticed a black cloth dangling from the exhaust tail pipe of various vehicles in the city. I am sure it’s not a recent phenomenon but was puzzled to notice it being so prevalent city-wide. Logically I reasoned it has something to do with the belief in “Nazar” but honestly (without being degrading) who would cast a second glance at a black-smoke-puffing rickshaw or for that matter a rickety-looking Suzuki FX.

Do shed some light on the Black Rag and if some knowledgeable blogger comes by maybe talk about how nazar came to be so popular, I doubt it has anything to do with Islam. (I request people to be courteous while talking about religion)

When a smoke-puffing rickshaw would be your only valuable possession giving you your bread and butter, you would also pray to god to keep it safe from any mishaps. Probably empathizing with the people and their situations would help us understand the reasons better!

hmm…it started off with the big cars (especially corolla) and now every car owner wants it. pretty weird though.

Guys, it is for warding of bad luck. You can call it a good luck charm.

Some people think that hanging a chappal or a shoe can do the same, but others just tie a piece of black cloth. Most new car owners do this because as a cloth hanging from the exchaust pipe is bound to divert attention from their new toys, as somepeople are born with an evil eye (i am saying this, because i truly believe it – the evil eye).

Imran have you ever seen people wearing a taweez around their neck – the taweez is of black colour.

And you may have seen people wearing black wrist bands of basically beads which are also of black colour.

Both of these are worn to protect the wearer from ‘boorey nazar’.

The black rag is the symbol for a notorious street gang, BLACK RAGS. They associate with Top Notch Association and the Westside Indies. Don’t mess with them. They accept alot of white boys so you never know who’s rollin with them. They are a very violent gang who believe in selling drugs and gaining respect by any means necessary.
