Stringing along!

Something that just brought a smile to my face as I returned home from India a couple of days ago – Karachi’s very own Strings were appointed as national ambassadors for HIV/Aids by UNICEF! From their press release:

Strings will join Unicef ambassadors around the world along with some well-known names like Amitabh Bachan, Jackie Chan, Ricky Martin from the entertainment and sports fields to combat HIV/Aids.

Unicef Representative Omar Abdi said: “Stringsí popularity with young people and their ability to communicate directly with them means that there will be many exciting ways in which dialogue about HIV/Aids will be increased among Pakistani youth in future.” The gathering observed that Stringsí stars have a role model status for the young people in Pakistan. Their music has become more popular and the group has won the ëMost Popular Bandí award from MTV Asia earlier this year.
