A Letter to Karachiite Men

Umar’s open letter inspired me to write one of my own, something that I’ve ranted about often to my friends and on my blog.

Dear Karachiite Men,

While I know that there will be some exceptions to this, I must address it to all of you. I have to ask one thing of all of you – why in the name of God and all things holy do you consider it your duty to stare at any woman of the female race (regardless of how she is dressed) standing/walking on the road? Be it a bus stop or the pavement, why must you slow down your car/motorcycle/rickshaw and ogle endlessly at the unfortunate girl who happens to be standing there/walking by there? Do you have gallons of free petrol to have your car lingering at one spot, or do you have absolutely nothing to do at all? Or are you just a pervert? And why must you assume that women want to hear your completely uncalled for comments like “randi / chikni / nice boobs / wanna lift?” (all of which I’ve either heard or my friends have) Sometimes you surprise me with your age (seriosuly, some of them are old enough to be my grandfather) and with the Government plates your cars sport. Whats even more horrifying is that your behavior is uniform in all localities. Perhaps what you deserve is to be filed an FIR against, or have a rock thrown through your car’s windshield. Regardless of what horrible fate you deserve, I think you should really, really not behave in the disgusting manner you do.

Regards,
the very pissed off Saba Imtiaz

I agree. Whenever i visit Pakistan from Canada i get a very uneasy feeling watching men stare at women endlessly regardless of who they are walking with. It is absolutely disgusting to see old men partake in this too looking at young girls. I guess it is the society to blame which thinks it is the norm.

In Canada a stunt like that would be greeted by a snub in your face calling you a pervert or worse calling the cops for sexual harrasment if any words are used. Maybe similar laws should be brought there.

With recent musharraf inconsiderate comments about women, i doubt that will happen !

In Jeddah people dont go 4 staring girls. But now the Pakistanis there have started this. I really hate this. But there r some girls in our society who r of bad character & they like 2 get stared & so on .e.tc. Thats why all boys consider girls as the same & humiliate them.
I think they should get married soon 2 fulfill their frustration.

Sedcondly I have come through many girls teasing me @ DHA signals

  6. Zag (unregistered) on September 19th, 2005 @ 1:12 pm

First of all, don’t start by writing to ALL karachi men!! I know you wrote some exceptions, but even that makes it sounds like 99.5% of karachi male population does this kind of thing, which is not correct.

I know what you have to suffer is very VERY wrong, but please don’t start generalizing, otherwise you will start pissing off people on your side.

  7. misha (unregistered) on September 19th, 2005 @ 2:07 pm

Mohummad: Severely flawed logic. If some girls enjoy being stared at and called the above names (and I seriously doubt there are any that do), your duty remainds, as a moral person, not to indulge in such acts still. As for eve teasing, honestly, I really doubt there is anything a woman could say to a man that could cause the sort of blind rage/humiliation that being called randi for standing on a street waiting for a bus does.

Zag: Actually, I tried taking a random sampling once as I waited for a rickshaw on a busy intersection. Out of the 15 men that passed, exactly 14 of them either stared, slowed down their vehicles as they got closer to where I stood to leer, or make insultingly suggestive noises as they passed by. It would surprise you that even supposedly educated men indulge in this sort of behaviour. Once, as a female friend and I stood waiting for a bus near Schon Cirle we had one gentleman circle round us several times, then stop and insist several times that we should accept his offer for a lift. Being told firmly but politely that we did not need a lift did nothing to damped his spirits. Upon fleeing to the Forum to await our ride, we had another car follow right behind us as we walked, with several (educated) young men popping out at intervals to try and entice us into the car. So forgive the sweeping generalization, but I’ll have to agree with Saba on this one.

i agree with zag on the percentile of the men
who stare women, you can cut it down a lil bit more, not all the male population of karachi is sick.

ohh yea…this is so so true..It feels like we are being “visually raped” by these idiotic, hormone raging men!!

and hence the saying shall prevail ” Boys are stupid! Throw Rocks at them!” ..I wish…

Guys, although a tiny number of males in this mega city does have some decency, but the fact remains that almost 95 percent of the male pop. has lost their marbles when it comes to show courtesy to the opposite sex.

Girls, here is a suggestion – whenever some male stares at you, just pick up a stone from nearby and chuck it towards him – and believe me until and unless do not take a drastic action you will continued be harassed everyday in this disgusting manner.

  11. JUMANA (unregistered) on September 20th, 2005 @ 8:38 am

well, Arsalaan, im very much tempted to throw a stone on them( a boulder perhaps?)..but im afraid coz what if he confronts u or worse still bring a whole lot of other guys..then we are in for trouble…

sometimes when im in a bad mood coming back from work, and when i come across this guys, i got no energy to yell or watsoever..so what i usually do is i show my middle finger…it really caught them off guard..coz they never expected a girl to do that..

one more thing gals, if u are brave enuff, if they make sleazy comments such as “nice boobs”, i suggest that in reply we should say “ugly penises”..

the reason why these guys are so bold is that they know we gals wont say nething and will keep quiet..so to tackle such atrocities, i think we gotta speak in men’s lingo..sad but true..

and yea i do agree that not all men are screwed up in the head..i have wonderful male frens and i always complained to them abt this..infact, the suggestions that ive given u here are mostly from them..

Any body care to read the translation of Surah Noor (number 24) where Allah has ordered (both) Men and Women to lower their gazes. Only if we were practicing muslims, Saba wouldn’t have to write that letter!

  13. Imtiaz (unregistered) on September 20th, 2005 @ 4:23 pm

    @ jumana….
Good idea, but i seriously doubt if it will work…..

in general….aside from the fact that the message is addressed to the entire mail population of Pakistan, i totally agree with saba here. Females have all the right to get pissed off after what they go through at the hands of my fellow sex…..

  14. Jumana (unregistered) on September 21st, 2005 @ 8:24 am

    Imtiaz..

do u know wat really pisses us off( i cant say for all the female population..) is that whenever these jangli boys pass comments and the whole group will start laughing..and then i start wondering what is so funny about me that they are laughing abt..unless i look like a clown doing some acrobatics…

if the law were in my hands..i’ll be the next bandit queen…shooting these men..ohhh yea..that will be fun…

  15. Imtiaz (unregistered) on September 21st, 2005 @ 10:55 am

    @ jumana…..

if i had the law at my hands…id give it to u till u took care of this mess……..then i have more mess to take care of……

even acrobatics ability and practice…its an art…nothing to laugh at…..

Misha , I didnt mean that all the girls are of bad character but indeed a few of them are really . But not all the boys are of that bad character. few are. Maybe I am wrong coz I dont have this stupid habit 2 stare @ girls so maybe I have not noticed boys staring girls.
Misha , If u r being stared by boys , keep a swiss knife with you 2 scare them. When my sister startrd going to her university , she was annoyed very much as there is a walking distance from our home to her univeresity. Than she started keeping a swiss knife with four sharp blades in it enough to scare a starer. !!!! So u better keep one & I am sure it will work :):):):) Tell me if it works.

  17. Zag (unregistered) on September 21st, 2005 @ 4:22 pm

Whoa, from shooting people to showing knives, we are getting some extreme solutions aren’t we. Next, someone will be suggesting to use the knife to cut off their….. oh well… u get my point :)

  18. Khattab (unregistered) on September 21st, 2005 @ 8:17 pm

Although this problem is not only limited to karachi but being a muslim country with muslim majority one exptects people to show respect towards women. Sometimes I wonder why we dont take the easiest solution to this problem by men following the companions of the Prophets and women following wives and daughters of the prophets.

  19. mohummed (unregistered) on September 22nd, 2005 @ 12:16 pm

Zag , u r getting on the extreme side. A knife can almost scare a staring guy indeed . Just try

  20. boy (unregistered) on September 22nd, 2005 @ 1:11 pm

I think girls should wear high heels. There are two reasons for that first is that high heels are the secret weapons of girls with which they can kill boys. Secondly as a boy & a high heels lover , I know that boys feel overpowered by girls who wear high heels & also feel dominated by them. In my opinion when a boy teases a girl she should give him a smile & start walking. He will follow her , she should than led him to a quiet lane or alley .Than she should kick him below the belt ( u know what I mean ). Obviously he will fall down . Now its the girls time. She should now start walking on him wearing her high heels & hence to give him a nice “seductive kill”.

    :P

  22. Zag (unregistered) on September 22nd, 2005 @ 5:38 pm

Mohummad: Yes, a knife can scare a guy, but then the same question arises that jumana raised earlier, what if the guy tries to confront, or worse, what if there is a car full of guys and the girl is alone?

Boy: I think you’ve been watching too many fantasy porno movies :)

  23. mohummed (unregistered) on September 23rd, 2005 @ 11:50 am

ZAG: If u come across a car full of guys & u r alone than dont worry coz u have Allah with u. Just show ur knife.

  24. mohummed (unregistered) on September 23rd, 2005 @ 11:53 am

BOY: I think ur idea is a bit stupid but still considerable. See what the girls say about it.

  25. Jumana (unregistered) on September 23rd, 2005 @ 5:51 pm

well let the girl comment here alrite..

Boy: i find the heels thing tacky..coz instead of being a weapon, it might just become a hindrance..for eg, if a whole group confronts a girl, she wouldnt be dumb enough to stand there and show her heels rite? human instincts will tell us to get out from there ASAP. And trust me running in heels…na ahh..not a gd idea..u might just sprained ur ankle..

but kp those suggestions coming in..its fun reading all these comments:D

  26. boy (unregistered) on September 26th, 2005 @ 12:03 pm

Miss Jumana: I didnt said that a girl should run with high heels on , she should fight with them instead. At least breaking their heads!!!!.Jumana , being a female feet & high heels lover , I know that they work . It is my personal experience that whenever I see a girl with high heels on , I feel that she wants to dominate me & overpower me. Believe me its true.

  27. boy (unregistered) on September 26th, 2005 @ 1:16 pm

ZAG: I dont watch fantasy porno movies but I love high heels.& I know that a girl can easily control many boys with her high heels. Her arches , her instep , her walk , the feeling of looking her heels & her ankles up is great!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  29. Zag (unregistered) on September 26th, 2005 @ 7:06 pm

Lol…. dude, even if you like these fetishes, you need to keep them to yourself or atleast to your blog and not broadcast them over a public blog…. :)

  30. Jumana (unregistered) on September 27th, 2005 @ 8:20 am

yea i felt squirmish reading BOY’s comments..

i’ll think twice now before wearing heels..just in case, there are ppl who are like BOY on the streets..

  31. boy (unregistered) on September 27th, 2005 @ 2:54 pm

Huma: No , not at all . If you are getting sick by my comments than I am certainly not responsible for that. I am only exposing my deep affection & love for high heels , buried deep inside my heart for years.

Zag: you dont need to suggest me to keep my feelings & ideas to my blog or myself. We are an independent nation & we are free do do every thing as Quaid e Azam said. We have freedom of thoughts also. If u dont want me to comment here , just ignore coz there are others also who want to read my comments. I am just explaining how can a girl can stop a boy from staring her. It is my personal experience that whenever a high heeled girl order or command me any thing, I immediately follow her commands , no matter if she wants me to lick her feet!!!!. So if a boy stares u next time & u r wearing heels ,than simply order him not to do so or face serious consequences. As all boys fear heels , he will instantly obey your command as if he is your slave. Believe me.

Jumana: Please dont stop wearing heels as heels are the beauty & secret weapons of girls , as I said earlier. if u r willing 2 wear heels just wear them & dont think twice , as u said. there are no other people like me on the streets. I know. I am the one & only guy in the whole city & country who loves heels & want to be a slave of them. so u r safe. Wear high heels & no one will bother to stare u!. & if someone does than simply order him not to do so. he will quickly obey ur commands. & if one day we come across each other than I will not do anything but will wait for ur command to do any thing u want in ur heart. Be it licking ur feet, kissing ur feet licking ur heels e.t.c. Coz i love & respect female feet & high heels a lot.

I think this issue should be raised in front of President general Pervez Musharraf & PM Shaukat Aziz who ever come to KHI . I am sure he will take key measures to stop boys & girls staring each other. At least pass out a rule instead.

  35. boy (unregistered) on September 30th, 2005 @ 12:00 pm

ALL KARACHIITE BOYS: Dont ever stare at girls , coz they can KILL u with their high heels seductively!!!!

ALL KARACHIITE GIRLS: If u ever come across a boy staring at u , just kick him & make him fall on ur feet & walk all over his body!!!!

ZAG: Thanx 4 ur advice , but I like girls to order me coz I am enslaved to them.

  36. boy (unregistered) on September 30th, 2005 @ 12:44 pm

JUMANA: As u said in one of ur last comments that running in high heels is difficult 4 u than u should practice running in heels. Believe me it will work . U might have seen airhostesses running in 6″ high stiletto heels , not in PIA but in international flights. How can they run? obviously they practice running in heels.
If u want , i can also help u in this regard.
