Advertisers try a new gimmick to attract attention and sometimes come up with either a stunning campaign or on the other hand sometimes a very stupid campaign.
Following on the mysterious advertising philosophy of Papa Rules campaign which is presently under way in Karachi, an advertiser has now chosen to display Tension Khallas on at least two billboards in town. What it indicates is only for us to guess and hopefully find out soon. Tension Khallas is painted with a brilliant green paint on a black background, could it be a follow up to Papa Johns Pizza or an all together independent campaign. Please spare us all the tension!

Bhai Log, the comedy gang from IBA is performing at FTC Auditorium on the 25th of September 2005. They usually give a great performance, so it should be worth checking out. The timing is 7 PM; the ticket price is still unconfirmed, but you can get it at the gate, and according to the ex-IBA folks I spoke to, it shouldn’t cost more than 250 bucks. I’m sure we can all shell out that much for some laughter? :)

There was a stand up comedy show at PACC tonight, by some unknown people. To sum it up simply: I think I have lost the will to ever laugh again. If some of the Karachi Metroblog readers didn’t know about it, oh you guys are so blessed to have missed the worst attempts at humor ever. I’m not even going to appreciate them for at least taking a chance and trying to give Karachittes some entertainment. You DO NOT go on stage for a stand up comedy show, solely depending on some flash cards being waved at you from the wings, which the audience can clearly see. You DO NOT make jokes that are beyond crude. You..oh well. To sum it up, never go to a stand up comedy show again, until some Blackfish member is performing and you know for a fact that it’ll at least make you smile.

Umar’s open letter inspired me to write one of my own, something that I’ve ranted about often to my friends and on my blog.
Dear Karachiite Men,
While I know that there will be some exceptions to this, I must address it to all of you. I have to ask one thing of all of you - why in the name of God and all things holy do you consider it your duty to stare at any woman of the female race (regardless of how she is dressed) standing/walking on the road? Be it a bus stop or the pavement, why must you slow down your car/motorcycle/rickshaw and ogle endlessly at the unfortunate girl who happens to be standing there/walking by there? Do you have gallons of free petrol to have your car lingering at one spot, or do you have absolutely nothing to do at all? Or are you just a pervert? And why must you assume that women want to hear your completely uncalled for comments like “randi / chikni / nice boobs / wanna lift?” (all of which I’ve either heard or my friends have) Sometimes you surprise me with your age (seriosuly, some of them are old enough to be my grandfather) and with the Government plates your cars sport. Whats even more horrifying is that your behavior is uniform in all localities. Perhaps what you deserve is to be filed an FIR against, or have a rock thrown through your car’s windshield. Regardless of what horrible fate you deserve, I think you should really, really not behave in the disgusting manner you do.
Regards,
the very pissed off Saba Imtiaz

Dear Mr. Prime Minister,
I know you are too important, and you are worried about your security. I know you have been attacked once and it can happen again. But taking your security at a level where it becomes inconvenience for general public will only result in loss of respect for you and the government. Trust me, if you didn’t exist at all, it would have made no difference in our lives. As a matter of fact, your existence has proved to be rather annoying. Your visits to Karachi play havoc with the traffic, which is already in chaotic state most of the time. The roads that you pass through are virtually sealed for general public, and commuters have to wait for hours to get to their destinations. The places where they park their vehicles are made inaccessible, and they are forced to park at alternate locations where cars are usually not parked. This gives a chance to your over-efficient police to impound those cars as they never miss an opportunity to make some extra money off the poor citizens. You, on the other hand, Mr. Prime Minister, are making enthusiastic speeches that the country is on its way to prosperity while the people are being ripped off by the police. It seems as if your security is more important than their time and money. If that is the case, then the people of Karachi don’t need you, Mr. Prime Minister. We are busy people and we don’t have the extra time to let your convoy pass through smoothly, neither do we have the extra money to give to the police to have our impounded vehicles back, which were parked near the place your were supposed to go. So, it is my humble request to you, Mr. Prime Minister, that please, do us all a favor and don’t come to Karachi! We are better off without you. If you have to come to Karachi then don’t use the streets. Spend some more money and get yourself a helicopter and land directly at the place where you want to go.
Much love,
Umar
