Earthquake – Update

This is weird – the USA Geological Survey’s announced that the earthquake that shook most of Punjab and Delhi measured 7.6 on the Richter Scale, while the Japanese meteorological agency has stated that the earthquake measured 7.8. We don’t have any reports as yet of the Pakistani officials giving an accurate figure of the number of casualties. Karachiites need not worry for now, the Japanese meteorological agency has stated (according to Dawn) is that there is no fear as yet of tsunami tidal waves. Various news channels are providing frequent updates on the earthquake, with The News updating its website every 15 minutes or so with a new report on the damage caused by the earthquake. Dear God, have mercy on this country.

I’ve been trying like crazy to call my relatives in Isloo, but all the phone lines are down. I don’t think there’s going to be a tsunami since for that to happen the quake’s epicenter would have to be in the Indian Ocean.
I found out about the quake from an uncle who called from Pakistan since my cable isn’t working. What’s ironic is that the only channels working are GEO and ARY…which I’ve been watching for the past two hours.
