scenes of misery..
I feel so miserable. I’ve been watching TV all day. Aaj TV aired footage of a man from Mansehra who drove to Islamabad with his injured mother, railing against the Government and media for focusing on Margalla Towers only, and how there are hundreds of children buried in schools and colleges. The Met Department said they’ve recorded 144 after shocks. All the domestic staff at my Dad’s office have left for Muzaffarabad – their villages have been wiped out and none of them know where their families are. Since I live next door, I can’t even imagine what scenes they will face when they finally reach. Apparently all routes to the northern areas are closed because of landslides, and only one route to Abbotabad has been opened. In such a horrendous situation, one doesn’t even know who to turn to – but public support in Pakistan has been overwhelming. TV One’s Taher A Khan said that the spirit in the air is reminiscent of the 1965 war, a time none of my generation has lived through. May God give us the strength to get through this horrible tragedy, and bless the souls of those who have died.
