Hope lives on.

There is still hope left :) From CNN:

Eight days after a powerful earthquake shook South Asia, Pakistani soldiers recovered four children — including two babies, one only 7 months old — from the rubble of their remote home in hard-hit Balakot. The bodies of their parents were also recovered in the mountain-top home on Sunday, army spokesman Maj. Gen. Shaukat Sultan told CNN. The soldiers, on rescue and relief operations in the region, heard the children’s voices and started digging through the toppled house. On Saturday, authorities rescued a 10-year-old girl from a house in Pakistani-controlled Kashmir, which was also hard hit by a 7.6-magnitude earthquake that killed thousands and left millions homeless.

Another related story from BBC:

A three-year-old girl stricken with polio has been pulled alive from rubble eight days after last week’s South Asia earthquake, the Pakistan army says. Maj Gen Shaukat Sultan told the BBC that the two brothers, aged nine and seven, had set off walking from their village of Sangar carrying their seven-month-old baby sister. On Saturday, after walking some seven kilometres they found some soldiers and told them that their three-year-old sister was still trapped under rubble in the village. Rescuers found the girl alive on Sunday, Maj Gen Sultan said. The two boys “are the real heroes”, he said. They were so exhausted that they had to be taken back to their village on mules. “It is a big example of survival,” Maj Gen Sultan told the BBC’s Urdu service.

    Assalam o Alaikum

If you have a headlamp (like the ones the mine workers wear on head), please donate it, it will be really helpful in those areas.

It’s not a big priority that we start buying these, but those of us who have such a thing, please donate these.

If you’re in Pakistan give it to someone who’ll make sure it reaches the affected area (like someone whos’ taking the donations himself, some Doctor, or Tableeghi Jamaat guys who are sending the trucks with the people of affected area).

I have a small headlamp, it has 12 small LED’s on it, runs on AAA batteries, and it gives enough light with 4 LED’s and runs about 120 hours on one set of batteries!! It could be really helpful up there.

I’ve linked to a scan of the package to give you an idea of the size. My estimate is that it hardly weighs 200grams (including 3 AAA batteries).

    Waqas Usman.

PS: Please add it as a separate post (with Heading like “Trekkers, Mountaineers, Please Donate your Headlamps”), also, please email me at waqas.groupsATgmail.com so that we can co-ordinate on other latest updates from the field and from the volunteers abroad (I’m in Lahore).
