Karachi Wishlist 3.

Ooh, I’d like:

1: NICE cinemas that show movies the day they’re released internationally.
2: Supermarkets at every corner.
3: Vending machines at every corner that dispense Marlboros and Mars bar for only Rs. 10 each.

i can’t believe after reading these lists how easily succumbed to capitalism and mass media and western influences karachiites really are. it’s unfathomable. everything that makes karachi what it is, is what it isn’t. i mean starbucks is evil. everyone knows that. walmart? ikea? (by the way, ikea already has offices in karachi). have you people any clue what our import levels are in relation to our exports? go visit the epb i the ftc building some time. it’ll blow your mind away. you’re willing to allow such companies into the country whereas your cottage industrialist who is suffering with barely 5 rupees a day in the rural area’s trying to make his living on skilled labour that has been passed down his family for generations is going hungry, being bought out by these companies, who pay him even less and sell his products for even more. it’s filthy and shameful. i agree with jaywalker. i really wished someone had thought of a library. but i guess some people will always remain conscious about what brand they’re wearing and take for granted what they already have.

WHY IS IT THAT LATELY SOMEONE OR ANOTHER ALWAYS MANAGES TO TURN AN INOFFENSIVE AND INNOCUOUS TOPIC OR COMMENT INTO SOMETHING CONTROVERSIAL AND STAID? ABBAS, PLEASE GET OFF YOUR HIGH HORSE AND STOP PREACHING.

oh dear …. respect for someones wishes and all but dont ask for something that will come bite you in the ass later!
Please read up on what these huge corporations do once they decide to set foot in a country – they suck the place dry.

Abbas, thats the way forward man. Our imports have always been on high man. You don’t know their working style, I mean I am not going to support them here 100%, know their evil already but they also support local industries. Come on man, that will be good for country growth. Further Ikea have a very small liaison office in Karachi; they do merchandising and provide shipping support.

And guys Makro is an international chain. They are our customers in Indonesia and we are working to get them on-board with us in Pakistan as well.
