its official……
Etisalat backed out of the PTCL deal…….
it isnt on the papers as yet…
but it will be all over tomorrow….
this was despite a call by the General Sahib yesterday to the CEO of PTCL…..asking him if they were interested in continuing..since 28th was the deadline, that passed without action.
Apparently, the Etisalat CEO reassured the president that the deal will go through…..
one of the reasons could be the eye opener when they realized that their bid was over 90% higher than the second highest bidder. Another concern could have been the difficulty they faced in raising finances……
USD 2.6 billion is a hell load of money!
comments anyone?

1. Roads that are actually BUILT after being broken down (ref: Jail Road)
2. Roads without continuous khaddas in the middle! (explained below in detail)
3. Decent speed breakers people! Not freaking car breakers
4. A little more organized traffic, PLEASE!!!
5. Motorcycle drivers that do not pop in front of your car without warning and expect you not to hit them
6. People who listen to the horn and mvoe out of the way when you honk at them, NOT look up at the sky (this one’s for you Sheen)
Yes, this is a IHateKarachiTraffic rant!!!! I just came back from driving around Shadman town (near North Nazimabad) and boy, I think my car is MAJORLY messed up. There was not a single road I came across that was smooth, every other second I had to apply breaks because a deep, evil khadda would pop from nowhere right in the middle of the road :( Why oh why can’t these bad roads not be rebuilt or atleast these khaddas refilled?
ps. Speaking of khaddas, any of you wodner where the name Khadda Market came from? :p

The cafe-culture-with-some-more has begun. I believe one of the pioneers was a Cafe Blue situated on Tauheed Commercial popular for its karaoke nights, plays, spontaneous combustion evenings, and the Pakistan Cricket World Cup screenings. We, as developing consumers are demanding more. It’s not only about good food anymore. What else am I getting? A good looking place? A few books and magazines lying around? Cafe Kaldi introduced the board game idea and many an evening, a group of friends could be found roaring over Pictionary ot Taboo over cokes and coffees. Novel ideas are much appreciate by our discerning and moody Karachi crowd. We like being kept busy. We like being entertained. Music is good but we need a little something extra. Chatterbox, the pie-in-the-sky bakery is one of the latest additons to the ever-multiplying “eateries with a concept” on Zamzama. The little nook in the back with the itwar-bazar bought design and life books, and the main table up front with the noughts and crosses are sure winners with anyone, that is anyone who is looking for a bit more than just coffee.

Oh good God, my office is FREEZING right now. Why on earth did I have to forget my shawl today of all days :( Its a common occurence to see women wrapped around in shawls in my office in the summers. I hate working with men sometimes who insist that the a/c must be on at full blast, despite the weather changing and the flu in the air..

Has anyone been to Mela (the place opposite Lal Qila, next to Awami Markaz) during Ramadan? I want to know how is it, as in how is the food and environment? My office folks are planning to go to Mela for Iftaar but I am not too sure about it. So tell me if it is good or bad so that I could convince them accordingly.

Woke up this morning to discover a bunch-load of vivacious marigolds potted lovingly by my mother. What vibrant colors! How splendid did they make an ordinary morning! I am afraid that a limited cell camera cannot capture the beauty exactly. But take a look…

P.S. for a certain friend of ours, here is a view of them wiggly toes in the corner of the frame. :)

WOMEN WOMEN WOMEN !!! Whats wrong with you poeple, as Eid approaches you swarm all shoe stores of Karachi, lead us poor men in and out of hundreds of stores and after 3-4 hours of hunting have the nerve to turn around and say “Kuch Pasand Nahein Aya”. We do all the hard work negotiate the traffic, find the rare parking spot and then as we are getting out of the car for some rest – the lady of the house shows up. Fuming “Kiya ho giya hai is daffa – no good shoes” faithful husbands know when to shut up and follow orders, if you dare speak at this critical juncture – you would have committed the crime of the century.
Poor men, if lucky to find a praking spot reach the store to be labelled persona non grata as each store has a huge sign which even a blind man could not miss claiming “MEN NOT ALLOWED” – OK we get the message quite clearly You Salves Are Not Allowed (snicker) [the store owner has the last laugh rubbing it into our tired wounds] A few more days to locate that magical shoe which needs to have naturally the right colour sorry the perfect colour, the perfect shape and it should somehow feel perfect (what does that mean!). All three characters should match to the ‘T’ otherwise the store gets a rude CYAL8R G8R. We salves are no where in the equation.
Stand up Men and Defend Yourself – sadly (Im still a chicken at that)
