Fakhr-e-Alam’s email and Pictures

http://karachi.metblogs.com/archives/images/2005/11/DSC02360-thumb.JPG Assalam Alaikum Pakistanis

It has been over 14 days now that I and my volunteers have been working in the valleys of death. Though we have been told that the rescue phase is over

and we are all to work on relief and rehab….the truth is that yesterday after 21 days a man was found alive from underneath the rubble alive. Sad that we have given up on these people. Only God knows how many are still alive underneath all that concrete, hoping, praying and waiting for us…..if they would only know that on the surface we have already declared them dead. Ask yourselves for a moment if you or your loved one was ubderneath the rubble of your own home, and we gave up on them on day 8….how would you feel?

Anyway as much as I try, I cannot fight the system. However we must not give up, and continue to do what we want too, what we have too. Please remember we will not get any medal for all our efforts, only Allah can reward us for what we do.

Let me firstly clear a few notions about UNITED PAKISTAN. When I made the first appeal to the people of Karachi to come forth and donate at the PAF museum, I had no idea it would spread like wild fire. Karachi rose to the occassion and though I left PAF museum to come work in the field, we continue to recieve more and more from the generous people of Karachi. When I started my operations in Islamabad I was instantly given support from PTCL, MOBILINK, UFONE & WARID. I thank them all. I was given tremendous support from ARY, and ARY’s Salman Iqbal has contributed tremendously to the cause, hats off to him. My effort was supported and initiated by Taher Khan and TV one, and they had a major role in igniting this fire of passion for humanity

in Karachi. And I cannot thank enough, Mr. Shahaab Zubairi and AAJ TV, they have been honest, and absolutely neutral in their approach, and helped me in making it possible to reach the people by giving me precious airtime.GEO tv has done a tremendous job on their account as well. The Good thing about this entire effort was that whether it was communication giants or media giants. They all united in their efforts. Hence when people started asking me what was the name of my organization, I decided to name it UNITED PAKISTAN….because I have never seen the country unite like this ever before. BRAVO PAKISTAN….I am proud to be part of this great nation.

About UNITED PAKISTAN….you can visit our website www.unitedpakistan.org It will tell you alot. But remember I am not taking money….no cash donations. We are following a simple formula….MATCH A NEED….if you wish to donate we don’t take money…we just ask you to go and buy us something that we need…..

Where me and my volunteers have seen extremely horrifying things….faced extremely difficult choices…we have had some good moments….our camp had its first baby boy….we have named him Mohammad Farooq. His father died in the earthquake…he will never know his father…..but the whole camp has fallen in love with him. He is our child…the child of UNITED PAKISTAN.

Our forward teams have gone where no one has gone…we have been co ordinating our efforts with the Pakistan army, and hence were pin pointed where doctors were needed…..we have reached and delivered. The great thing about UNITED PAKISTAN…..is that it is not an NGO. People working for NGO’s have big salaries. Most of your donations go into administrative costs with NGOs…basically paying salaries of the big fish. In UNITED PAKISTAN we are all working as volunteers and doing it with heart and soul.

Sad part is that many big NGO’s working in the region have packed up and left or deserted their camps. Leaving patients in tents needing critical post op care. WHY? beacuse the photo opoortunity is over…media has moved into further areas, and the NGOs have gotten what they wanted, good coverage so that they can claim more donations from you. Be careful where you give your donations.

Again what we need are more volunteers, and the spirit must continue……I shall not give up….please forward this mail to others….call us on +92-333-5611152 or +92-300-8226007.

Call us we need you…..be part of a United Pakistan…its time we all did a good deed together.

I am Fakhr e Alam
a volunteer of UNITED PAKISTAN

I got motivated by this man, before 08/10, my perception about him was of a rapper or bhangra artist, but now he is more than an inspiration to many many pakistanis like myself. I stay in Dubai so cant be there, but Fakher gave directions on how to gather stuff and do things in Dubai, for tents he specifically mentioned the shops in dubai where these tents were available. Hats off to Salman Iqbal, CEO of ARY Digital, this guy on just one call from Fakher left his sick son in Dubai and moved to Karachi and is still in Islamabad.

I tried to do my bit from where I am and am proud that I saw many many countrymen in Pakistani consulate in Dubai doing valunteer work, in ramadan and in scrotching heat.

There is another topic in discussion where its been dicussed that 08/10 quake was an “AZAAB”, look at the brighter side, whole nation is united, everyone I know have contributed in cash or kind, by goods or by services but atleast they are all united, nobody is speaking about MMA and Govt. or MQM or Sind Govt. they are all working together. I remember that one night Mani (the TV personality) came on telephone at ARY digital telethon, and said “zindagi main pheeli dafa MQM or Jamat-e-Islami walon ko saath kaam kertay dekh raha houn”. WoW !!! can you bleive that people who snath each other skin collection on Baqr Eid were working together!!!!!

In the end I want to say one thing only that Media played a very big role in all of this, they made us relized the magnitude of this catestrophic tregedy. I thank them for this that they have done more than their part. BUT, all the NGOs who are deserting their camps should be filed and aired on TV so that people will know about them and be ware of giving them hefty donations again. I think Dr. Shahid Masood and Hamid Mir are the best person who can really strip these NGOs on screen.

Men, women and children buried alive. Some of them were alive under the rubble for 20 days or more. Most of them died while they waited for us to rescue them. Many of them will not even get a burial. The rubble of their own house is their grave and when the rubble is removed so would their last resting place. Fact is; many died because we were late or simply because many of us did not even bother. But then there were and are, many who are still working in the field. I never knew what I started will become this big or go so far and I am grateful to all those who helped me to get United Pakistan this far. But the job is far from done. Please keep in mind that the winter in these areas is a killer. The severe weather at night is not bearable even in my winterized tent. Since our tents are not fireproof, we can not have stoves in them. Deaths have occurred in many other tent villages because of the fire accidents. Harsh winter is approaching and many will die because of it. Please HELP! Please rise as a human and as a nation. Keep in mind that it could have been us instead of them.
