Hey guys the best ones are in Kharadar!! This started from there na..

    1- Near main Police Chowki
2- Siddiq Halwai near Boulton Market

And the one near City Court in Jodia Bazaar..

You will love it for sure.. My money back guarantee..

Zain, you are absolutely right !!!

By any chance, does anyone have ever eaten halwa puri from Abdullah sweets in North Nazimabad (Block B), I think after Kharadar joint, Abdullah is the best.

  10. Imtiaz (unregistered) on November 8th, 2005 @ 6:22 am

Ur talkin about Madina Halwa Puri at Police Chowki???

i dont really love those anymore….:S
    had them toooo much..!!
if u notice, the chanay are somethimes “to the tooth” instead of being properly tenderized, plus they have so much oil at times, that it tends to leave a strong after taste…..

Siddique Ahalwai, havent been there in a while….so i think i should give it a shot…..

have to check out Abdullah Sweets…havent been there….

Speaking of Karadar….dude, have u tried “Malpuras” from the Bakda Reataurant wali lane? Awsome dude……just awsome!

Rest of ppl who dont knwow what we are talkin about..u have no idea what u guys are missin!!!

Yes have tried Abdullah; its just great man! but all my family and friends love the halwa poori in Kharadar so we just go there.

Yeah man you are right. Stuff in Kharadar is just awesome! Tomorrow is chutti so we have planned to go and fill our stomach with the tasty halwa poori and qeeema paratha at Siddiqui Halwai..People say that Siddiqui Halwai was there even before Partition. And you know what the, thing I like most about Kharadar and specially Sunday mornings at Kharadar :) that you get to see the beautiful old buildings there with no traffic and I really enjoy that part.

Food I love to have there:

1- Qeema paratha at Siddiqui Halwai (Sunday morning)
2- Chicken Malai Kababs at Al-Majeed Nafees.
    3- Kalaijee at a thella near Police Chowki :) I mean seriously…
4- Chicken Lachey at Bakda near Tower.
5- Malpura of M. Suleman (only in Ramazan)
6- Dahee barey at a small shop near Khoja Masjid.
    7- Qadri key samosey.
    8- And what not guys…

    Hit back…….

Guys…please have some mercy on this poor Karachiwala sitting in USA reading about the lovely food back home.

For Halwa Puri, Siddiq Halwai was my favorite although a lot of people in my neighbourhood (PECHS) prefered to go to Bahadurabad (Opp. Tooso…or Thooso as we would call it).

Some one mentioned Makar Para (Bakra Hotel lane in Kharadar)….awesome food there.

Anyone dying for great Karahi Gosht should either try Taj Peshawai in Kharadar or the Truck Adda on Mauripur Road.

Oh! and for sweets…Anjarwala Bakery near Pakistan Chowk

    ur right zain…..
taking an early 7 am walk in kharadar is just great…..
    and u….
ive also heard that part about siddiqe halwai being there before partition….

now i knew i was forgetting something……chicken lachay from bakda!!!!!

been a long time since ive been to majeed nafees, when di dhe satrt malai boti???
    gotta hit that spot too!!!

i wouldnt agree in m sulemans malpuras, but everyone has their own likings…i prefer the malpura wala thats a lil up straight towards police chowki from bakda, after crossing okhai school. he closes after isha though…

OK nina, from II chundrigar road, u break off to MA Jinnah, thats more convenient actually.

ull see a Habib Bank AG Zurich, which actually has a pan wala between its two doors, (yes, that can only happen in karachi, more specifically in kharadar, if anyone has a pic of that, please post one!).

u take a right from there, head straight, and keep heading straight till the lane thins out and u come to T crossing. A White coloured mosque will be almost directly opposite u (its called Bukhari Masjid, ask anyone for instructions right at tower and they can guide u too). Take a left from there, the road widens up and comes to a large intersection where many lanes cross.

U will see lots of rikha walay ppl, immedeiately after the ricksha walay, u will see a small corner restaurant called Madina Halwa puri, thats spot one.

Right opposite Madina Halwa puri and across to the other corner, theres Qadri Restaurant (spot 2).

Go straight down from Qadri (not between Madina & Qadri) and u will see Majeed Nafees on another corner. Spot 3.

lots more…but one needs to be familiar with kharadar to know what to order where, and what specfic customizations make things best.

    Proposal: Get together at Kharadar????

Great updates by Imtiaz…and the suggestion for a get-to-gether, now that really hurts :(

Its a 19 hour flight from JFK :(

While you guys are up exploring the real gastronomic delights of Karachi, I would like to suggest:
    – Roast raan at Qaiser (Opposite Lighthouse Cinema).

    – Arfa Hotel (Next to Bakra Hotel) in Makar Para/ Kharadar. Do try their Chops.

    – In the lane adjacent to National Banks HQ was an Iranian restaurant, can’t remember the name. Their brain masala and daal fry…yummy

    – Who can ignore the joints on Burns Road. Specially the hotels next to each other. One for Nihari and the other one for Dhaaga Kabab. And after filling the tummy with that, the Rabri wala standing at the end of the lane.

    – In order to stay awake after such an amazing meal….head out to City Station and the chai wala over there (next to the bridge)

Nina, yahi to fun hai!! Sunday is the day to go there for Halwa Poori and in weekdays, go between 0930 to 1100; other shops will be closed so you can easily take your car there and come out safe without any scratch. Madina have a pigeon-hole like family room so you can sit there if u would like :)

Imtiaz, seems you know the whole area man??? Al-Majeed started this malai thing a year back I guess; don’t get confused because they have Chicken Kabab and Chicken Malai Kabab alag alag.

I would go for get together at Al-Majeed on a Friday night!! Do you all say????

  18. Imtiaz (unregistered) on November 13th, 2005 @ 8:20 am

of course i know the whole area!!!!
inside out to be more specific!!!!

    anytime dude…..

    u can go by car…
but u need tons of patience while drivin through…..walkin there…has its own degree of fun…..

    u get to hear stories…feel the flavours….everything….

i often tell my friends that kharadar is like malgudi..if uve read “malgudi days” by R K Narayan….

it has its own daily routine, its own particular stories….
