Gender Difference

Last night, as I was waiting in my car for the coffee that I had ordered, I saw a poor woman, sitting on the sidewalk, with a boy and a girl (probably son and daughter). She was feeding the boy while the girl was crying and begging her for some food, but her cries were of no use as the woman continued to ignore her while she kept giving the boy whatever she had. I thought we were living in an age where the parents loved their kids no matter what their sex was, apparently I was wrong.

ZAG… i wud have to disagree with you…parents still love their kids no matter what their sex is…u cant really come up to a conclusion by merely witnessing one scenario…there might be a reason behind that woman feeding her son first and not the daughter…he might be sick or whatever who knows…sometimes what we see is not quite true…i still think that for a mother..every child is same regardless of their gender….thats my opinion though

TB: Maybe I should have completed the whole thing…. My wife went upto her and asked her why she was only feeding the boy while the girl was crying and asking her for food….. but the woman didn’t had any answer and just lowered her eyes and looked at the ground…. My wife bought her a pack of cookies and when we came back to the car, the boy snatched those away from the girl….

You are right, it could be a number of scenarios, but the way she couldn’t come up with anything when asked and lowered her eyes, made me assumed that both of them were her kids and that she just preferred one over other, yet when asked, she was ashamed of it herself…

weird!!..i m yet clueless why wud that happen…i mean why wud a mother ignore her child to the limit that she doesnt even care for her basic necessatities of life like food, shelter, sleep..

cud be illiteracy..or i dont know what..but its quite disturbing..

    very disturbing indeed!
very disturbing to see how we free ourselves from all the guilt by giving these poor people who lay on the open roads a pack of cookie and go on critizing for months issues of gender inequality (which might not even be there!)
very disturbing to see we might scrutinize their whole lives just to prove our point yet we wont give half as much effort to help them stand on their feet.
very disturbing to see how us well educated people behave and nose into other’s lifes!! sad indeed.

Zubair… isn’t this what it’s all about? isn’t this we’re good at? isn’t this the thing that makes us powerful?

talking about others.. words.. frigging words.. no meaning no sense.. just plain words… we like discussing problems.. fuck we’ve always been discussing problems.. since like forever? Kashmir Issue Palestine Issue Poverty Slavery Human rights Adultery Racism etc etc… we’re all here to discuss these things.. and thats it.. just discuss it n be on with ur life.. life.. excuse me, i meant to say get on with other people’s lives.. we don’t live our lives… we let others live ours.. why? becoz we live other people’s lives.. if people get on with their business only, the world would be a better place.. but heck, who need it to be a better place…
i’m a walking contradiction to myself.. yes, i know.. i’m anonymous coz i don’t want some people to know i’m here.. yes, i’m afraid.. afraid to come out as i know if i come out of my dark corner, someone will push me into some other.. i’d rather have a dark corner to call my own..

Zubair: us well educated ppl have another problem….. generalizing!! Maybe this should also be added in that list about how we generalize a group of people in one category based on a few lines like we know whatever they’ve done throughout their lives….

Even if we forget about that for a moment…. isn’t it better to look at something and feel about it, rather than not care about it…. isn’t a pack of cookie better than nothing while they watch and “us educated ppl” eat away…. i guess you haven’t heard the “katra katra darya banta hai”….. the real problem here is that we always aim big…. its either the complete package or nothing at all…

sorry for sounding so anal, but try giving a hungry person a pack of cookie, or a meal and see the joy on their face.

Anonymous: Care to suggest a way besides words and discussions to let everyone know about the problems others are facing? Remember these words and discussions helped generated the response in the recent quake crisis.

ZAG —> “us well educated ppl have another problem….. ”

Quoting you, again “Maybe I donít have any feelings, or maybe I donít want any more heartache…” Regarding RUTHLESS MURDER of poor innocent Karachitis, you say you have become insensitive.

And yet you are so worried about a personnal issue of another family that is non of your concern?? I’m surprised!!

*sigh*, i guess i am either very incompetent at at communication, or you didn’t read my previous reply in its entirety. Fine Mr. Zubair, you have proved your point… from now on, i will stop caring about the society…

Zag, thats the point. if u’re asking my suggestiong about this matter proves that u don’t really know any other way besides words n discussions.. fine, let everyone know about the problems of the world.. talk about it… yeah, everyone should “Know” about the problems.. everyone should talk about ’em.. cry about ’em.. bitch about it.. but just don’t freaking do anything to actually solve the problem.. that was supposed to be the point…
about the earthquake… yes, the earthquake.. how much we’ve done for that… it really is amazing.. but think about it… like really think about it.. we needed a natural diaster of this sort to go help people… if there wasn’t any earthquake, who’d even care.. yeah, go ahead to kashmir n where not.. just forget all those who need your help here in karachi.. why would anyone want to help the people here.. they haven’t suffered enough yet… they haven’t had their earthquake yet..
its all crap… yes, i’m a worthless selfish asshole.. but look at yourselves… all of u do such stuff so that u would write about it in your blogs, so that u could tell others with teary eyes the horrible things u’v seen.. all these voluntary acts of urs.. these r juss breaksticks for ur big egos.. all the tears u waste.. its just pathetic… live n let live u say.. yes, live… and let live.. all u want is to be known as a hero.. u don’t see anything in the weeping eyes of ones u help but ur own pride.. u embrace the very people u’d spit at if they hadn’t gone thru the disaster.. its fine to help others help themselves… but what u do is help others so that they could be helpful to u.. i’ve said too much.. way too much.. and the funniest part of it all is that i’m going to be told that i’m wrong.. that all this is for the good of mankind bla blah blah.. ofcourse thats what we live for, right? we live for others as others live for us.. ironic, yes.. stupid, definitely.

Anonymous: Sorry for the late reply… was kinda busy with work. Anyway, I am getting tired of this discussion and want to end it here. Just wanted to ask you one thing.. I would have mailed you in pvt, but you didn’t left an email address, so i have to ask here….. you said, and i quote “but look at yourselves… all of u do such stuff so that u would write about it in your blogs, so that u could tell others with teary eyes the horrible things u’v seen.. all these voluntary acts of urs.. these r juss breaksticks for ur big egos..” Now, you are assuming that if people do something good, the only reason for that is to advertise it to other people… and if someone is doing it prvtly, then ofcourse, you wouldn’t know about it, right? So you will end up assuming that people just discuss and don’t do anything about it.

As far as discussion is the only thing we know… yes, because as i made it clear before, discussion leads to action!!

but anyway, this is my last reply on this topic. I am not here to change anyone’s point of view, and nor do i intend to do it. This blog is to express your thoughts and feelings about things related to Karachi and that’s what i m doing. Therez no stopping others from doing so as well. so maybe you can also join in and air out your views… it’ll be interesting :)
