Gol Gappey

I’ve noticed a very weird difference between the Gol Gappey (Pani puri) in Karachi and in Lahore. There are two types of gol gappey: meethay and namkeen. In Karachi if you ask for meethay gol gappey they will put some white and red chutney inside and give them to you with the same namkeen water whereas in Lahore if you ask for meethay gol gappey they will give the plain gol gappey but with a different sort of meetha water.

Has anyone else encountered this or is it just me? :p

    yes i have , and dont ask for meethay gol gappey in peshawar .

    It is always weird when a Karachiite asks for some food item they’re used to of in Lahore and get a shock when the item is served.

    Personal Experience:
    TM (in Lahore): (Feeling hungry enough to eat the waiter himself yet trying to sound polite): “Please get me a double plate of biryani”
    Waiter (proud to serve): “Sir salaaaaaaad, raita, cood-drink?”
    Returns minutes later with a plate of yellow colored plain rice with laboratory-tracable-only spices and a ‘boiled’ chicken leg piece placed on top of it. I can bet for my life that the two things were cooked separately.
    Waiter (serves): Jee sir…
    Since I was hungry like anything, I managed to eat some of that confusion while constantly cursing my friends who sweared that ‘Food is the speciality of Lahore’. (I was later to find out that it the appitite for the food in Lahore that is expectional and quality is something that can be taken care of by the tummys).
    When I was done (thanks God!), the lurking waiter appeared again.
    Waiter (expecting some tip from his oh-so-obvious Karachiwala visitor and smiling from ear-to-ear): “Sir ‘kaisee’ thee BIRYANI?”
    And my hand reached for my gun which was not there..and then I found my wallet. Paid off the bill and cursed back towards the sky ‘Lahore Lahore aae’.

    May be this happens to Lahoris’ visiting Karachi as well. I don’t know.

    I had Gol Gappay (Called Phuchkay that time but now they also call it GolGappay) in India a decade ago, they just have a single flavor and use their special Leaf-Made plate to serve. (directly dipping in the Water and serve in Leaf-Plate)I am certainly agreed with TM; I cannot forget eating Biryani in Isloo.. baaqi kahani is almost same… (But I was failed to have the whole plate)

    I visited Lahore 10 years back. All I remember is diving into the great food at the “Qarni restaurant” on a famous road. It was like YEE HAWWWW baybee…I hardly remember any other stuff and famous places.Love Lahore…Love Karachi..Love Pakistan…
