Karachi to Islamabad via Dubai

Great news. The metroblogging family is growing. Last week, Metroblogging Islamabad was launched. So now our dear Isloo becomes third Pakistani city to have a metroblog.

Another latest addition to the group is Dubai. That’s right. Now we can get first hand information about all that’s happening in Dubai straight from the people experiencing it.

So take a moment to visit Islamabad and Dubai and say hi.

Karachi-Hydrabad Motorway Project.

I think itís a good decision and one that was needed much earlier, because a) cities are close, almost every one travels by road there are no other alternatives. b) Traffic is huge on super highway c) lots of economy and goods depend on this road too. Etc etc.

What I donít understand is, does the six-lane road means one way road will be a six-lane? Or three-lane each? Because its already two-lane each road. Another thing that I donít understand is Mr. Minister said it consists of 24 under passes and flyovers. I know for sure there are number of little bridges on the road but why would we need an underpass? Just to make it look good?

Mobilink to Launch Blackberry Service

blackberry.gif Mobilink is set to take the cut-throat cellular competition to a different standard all together, they are planning to introduce Blackberry push services soon on their network. I have no idea how much the blackberry set would actually cost or anything about the service charges but it would surely be great to have this type of service in Pakistan giving true meaning to a true mobile office.

Read this press release that was published in May on the deal between Blackberry and Orascom. Can any insider provide any tips on the estimated launch or other tips?

Its Kara time again!

sab_se_karara.jpg

What a lovely way to start off a Sunday morning – receiving a copy of the 5th Karafilm Festival’s schedule with Dawn. They’re airing some really good movies this time around, and I love their tagline for this year – ‘sab se karara’. Check their website for the schedule, details about passes and about the festival.

From their website:

In keeping with the landmark nature of the 5th KaraFilm Festival, this year there are more films on offer than ever before, in fact over 150 shorts, documentaries and features! As a result, we are screening at three separate venues ñ PIIA, Alliance Francaise and Iqra University ñ just to accommodate all of them.

The film themselves are from over 30 countries, including Pakistan, France, Italy, Germany, the United Kingdom, the United States, Canada, India, Argentina, Chile, Iran, Tunisia, Lebanon, Spain, Austria, Sri Lanka, Switzerland, Poland, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Croatia, Costa Rica, Serbia, Tajikistan, Georgia, Turkey, Greece, Lithuania, and many more. They include films that have won awards at Cannes, Berlin, Venice, London, Sundance, Mumbai, Film South Asia and the many other festivals. And there are a number of features, shorts and documentaries which will be receiving their world premieres at the Festival. Many of the rest are also being screened in Asia or Pakistan for the very first time.

Carjackings

I read this news article and it reminded me of the situation back home. I wonder if the same tactic could be effictive in Karachi. I personally doubt it though. On second thought the CPLC is providing a similar service.
