Books … Anyone??

Salaam,

Sadly, with the Karafilm festival going on in the city, I see a nice event getting completely ignored. But being a Book Lover, how could I miss that small news in Review-Dawn which goes like this..

OUP is holding its first Karachi International Book Fair in which books from Pakistan, India, UK and USA will be on sale at the Expo Centre from December 7. The chief guest on the occasion will be Dr Hamida Khoro and keynote speaker will be Dr Romila Thapal. The programme will start at 4pm.

I dont have any idea what OUP is, nor do I know if they’ll let me In… I was only Happy to see something of my interest atlast.

Though one can find any kind of book in Karachi, original or pirated… which you can buy from Thailas [cart stalls] to Paramount and Liberty bookstores… I still appreciate such events going on, which highlights the importance of books in our lives… even in this era of technology where we’ve almost forgotten what books are!!

I frequently visit the OUP branch in Dolmen Mall, whenever I am there. Last month they had an amazing discount drive, offering upto 80% on certain books. I was there this sunday and some of the books are still on bargain counter. You can get upto 70% discount on certain titles.

Cant wait to go to this.I found out from an ad in Sundays Dawn paper. I got to Karachi about 2 months ago and have not found a bookstore to my liking yet…the selection of magazines i find to be very good but the books seem to be of a very narrow focus.
Cant wait to go…I think Metroblogs is a great place to advertise this any event like this.

Went over the weekend to the Book Fair its a decent start for a book fair in Karachi; I was surprised to find no authors…I have always felt its mandatory for a book fair to have authors talk about their work and for seminars and workshops.
