WSF-2006

The World Social Forum 2006 will be held in Karachi from the 24th of March to the 29th of March. The six day long event, the annual meeting of the alternative globalization movement, brings together civil society organizations from around the world. Organizers are hoping to attract 30,000 to 40,000 people to the event being held in Karachi this year. The opening plenary of the WSF-2006 will be addresses by Bishop Desmond Tutu, Tariq Ali and Arundhati Roy; the closing plenary will the closing plenary will also be addressed by the Dalai Lama.

The World Social Forum will be held to reinforce the global movement against globalization, wars, colonization, denial of rights of all sorts, terrorism, extremism, fundamentalism and militarization. It is the premier “meeting space for reflective thinking, democratic debate of ideas, formulation of proposals, free exchange of experiences & inter-linking of effective action for groups and movements of civil society, that are opposed to neo-liberalism and to domination of the world by capital and any form of imperialism. They are committed to building a planetary society directed towards fruitful relationships among humankind and between it and the Earth.”

The WSF was supposed to be held in January at the same time as the World Economic Forum was meeting but was delayed due to the October earthquake. The date being actually chosen to act as a counterbalance to the WEF, considered the WSFs “great capitalist rival”.

Let us take this opportunity to welcome our honoured guests to our great city. And let us hope that this agenda of a meeting of the minds and thoughts is fruitful and the process is continued for a better world through a means of social globalization as opposed to capital globalization.

There is a different between Social and Socialist. As far as the dictionary is concerned. Otherwise Social, Socialist, Democracy, Truth, Freedom, Equality, Justice, Morality, all have the same meaning. It is not about dishonesty, it is about the proper usage of the English language.

And, dishonesty is in taking something by exploitation and not returning anything back.
