28th APDC & Dental Mela

APDC-logo.jpgToday can be marked as a very important day for the Dental profession in Pakistan as we have launched a 3-day conference titled 28th Asia Pacific Dental Congress at the EXPO Center. This is not any wanna-be-famous conference but is recognized as an essential conference in the Asian region and Pakistan is honored to have been allowed to host this event here in Karachi The 27 Participating nations voted for a conference in Pakistan a good 3 years back and they have then sent inspectors every six months to ensure that proper standards are maintained for this prestigious event.

Assembling upwards of 5000 dentist from around the world with a size-able participation from more then 50 separate nations, it can surely be considered a feather in the cap for Pakistan, to have finally opened Karachi and Pakistan as a potential conference destination for future conferences. The dedicated team of volunteer dentist involved in the planning of the event truely believed in Pakistan and proved the world wrong despite all the security concerns that continue to haunt every foreigner wanting to visit Pakistan. Today we stand proud to say that Pakistan can indeed host any mega-event thrown at us peacefully and with grace.

As we all know that EXPO Center is primarily designed for exhibitions and it required some intensive planning to convert all the four halls into auditorium style scientific session rooms where more then 150 speakers will shed light on the latest cutting edge dentistry in the short span of three days.

It would have been unfair if all this wealth of knowledge remained limited to only dentist, so a parallel public dental project was also launched along with the Scientific Session called Dental Mela, which is arranged in the outskirts of the EXPO Center and is open to the public, where a number of companies and dental colleges have developed ideas to promote dental awareness amongst the people to better educate them on how to prevent dental diseases. Come join us in the Greatest Dental Celebration in Pakistan. Dental Health for All 24th-26th Feb

I have plans of going here tomorrow. I’m actually surprised this wasn’t up at the Karachi blog earlier, because on Thursday, my college* people (and that of several others) made us participate in an APDC dental health awareness walk, lots of photographers and media was around too, but I’ve since not seen any reports of it anywhere (much to the disspointment of many of my friends)!

Poo Poo – try doing a search of Asia Pacific Dental Congress Karachi and you will more then likely pull up more links. APDC is a common term used by the organisers, and yes I made a similar post a few days back using the same Nomenclature.

Zainub – the number of cameras present on an occasion can never be used to judge its coverage. Though I must attest that especially FJDC along with a few other colleges have been very supportive of this entire event. Hats off to everyone who worked to make this conference a success. Pakistan can stand proud to have pulled the Ace despite all the security concerns surrounding the Muslim world
