Men’s Realm

I was reading the latest issue of Men’s Realm last night and was surprised to see a familiar name in the table of contents. A fellow Metroblogger, Inspirex aka Imtiaz Noor had his first article published this month (I am assuming it was his first, at least for the said magazine)

Congrats Imtiaz, hopefully in the upcoming issues you can write about blogging as well :)

Zag , what it has to do with KHI Metro Blog. Could you please tell me relationship b/w this article published in some magazine and in Karachi. This is metroblog, I would advice you to look at other metro blogs. Most of us are not interested in knowing about the achievements of the authors here. Atleast it does not deserve a post. I am now really thinking to get an account for this metroblog, it would not cost me more than 10$ or 2 hours donkey work but do not want to misuse system. Please reply back to this comment.

PPH: The author of the article is also a member of KMB….. I think that’s relevant enough, if you don’t think so, ignore the post, there are a dozen more members writing for this blog, you are more than welcome to read their posts… That is one of the major reasons for having a blog like KMB, that the readers get the point of view of different ppl….

as far as misusing the blog, when I joined this blog, i was told we can write about anything related to karachi and since Imtiaz is a member of KMB and it was his first article, i m sure other ppl who like to read his posts would also like to know about this article…. if you disagree, mail Umar about it, since he is the captain of this MB!

Since you have been commenting so much on how you think the authors are not worthy of whatever they write on this blog….. do register yourself and write something yourself… hollow words have no meaning unless they are followed by action!!

  4. umar (unregistered) on March 1st, 2006 @ 12:45 pm

this post and all other posts are as related to karachi as it can be… we as authors decide what to write about and what not… sure we do consider your suggestions but we do not take dictation from anyone… if someone has no interest in a particular post or discussion then the wise thing to do would be to move on and wait for the next post, instead of flaming the authors. this is how things work here. if you have a problem with it then no body is begging you to come here.

Poo Poo Head: This is what differs us from other cities and their posts of metroblog… We care about our people, each other, and our fellow Pakistanis!!

That should be the spirit being a Muslim.

Inspirex, Congrats :)… couldn’t get my hands on the mag. yet!!

While conceding the fact that perhaps Poopoohead could have articulated his/her concerns better, I feel compelled to write that Umar’s response to Poopoo comes across as sounding quite authorotarian and dictatorial.

Having said that, allow me to also say that, compared to some of the other metroblog cities, the Karachi site is superb which is the reason why it warrants an almost daily visit.

  9. Original-anon (unregistered) on March 1st, 2006 @ 7:40 pm

I shall also jump into this discussion, I have asked and suggested several times that this blog tell us what is going on in Karachi. This is what most other city blogs do. Merely saying ‘Karachi Rocks’ several times does not do anything. Surely there have been plays, music concerts, historic train rides, art installations in the last few weeks but we have not seen anything here.
Umar, I am disappointed in your response, it certainly does not behoove you as the captain of this blog to tell people to go away.
And Faisal, in my opionon, this blog does a great injustice to Karachi, I do read other city blogs at times and I would put most of them above this.

  10. Faisal (unregistered) on March 1st, 2006 @ 8:40 pm

    @original-anon

You’re right…perhaps the word “superb” was a bit much. But, living abroad, I am simply starved for anything and everything Karachi. But, take a look at, for example, the islamabad site … totally disappointing … I mean, one of the recent posts was the weather forecast. And the Tokyo site was simply pathetic for a while until recently.

Going back to Umar’s response, I will once again say that it was simply disappointing. As it is, with only a handful of people able to initiate posts on this blog, it seems like some sort of an exclusive club. On top of that, to not be able to take on a bit of criticism and display a “take it or leave it” attitude, well, that’s a bit much. It’s almost as if this site is someone’s personal fiefdom.

Congrats.. Imtiaz on your article. I really dont care what anyone says here bout it but hey it was worth a post here. If anyone of us any accomplishments to be proud of then I think its worth knowing about. People that keep complaining bout how every post has to be bout karachi why dont u stop reading these post and go do some research on your own on khi. What you think?? I just care bout finding any type of info I could get here. Living abroad is boring so for me any info is worth reading. If you dont like it dont read it.

  12. Original-anon (unregistered) on March 1st, 2006 @ 10:03 pm

Faisal, I agree with everything you said, and said it well.I share your reasons for reading this blog. I had a good laugh over the weather forecast in Islamabad.
Shiraz, thank you for your suggestions, I will definitely conduct independent research about Karachi and my first project will be to look into the mysterious disappearance of apostrophes in that city.
Poo Poo Noman, I salute you for raising your voice.

“this is how things work here. if you have a problem with it then nobody is begging you to come here “.. hmmmmmmmmmmm
sounds like someone has his head stuck up his own ass a little too high .
so Zag made a congradulatory post about his friend . so what ? who cares?? if you dont like it dont read it , no biggie. PPH had something to say about that post, and like it or not he has a right to do that whichever way he chooses(although sometimes i do think he has real poop inside his head) . All this because this is a PUBLIC DOMAIN : as in Internet . if you make a post here you subject yourself to the praise or criticism, approval or disapproval of other bloggers .just like anyone has the right to agree or disagree with me. If YOU dont like it , YOU get the F*** outta here. take that ignorant , narrow minded shell you call your brain and get your own personal webspace and make it invite only , put a username and possword on it for all i care .but don’t tell anyone not to make comments on posts made in public domain.
freedom of speech and difference of opinion are obviously concepts that YOU are not familiar with .
get on with the programm buddy.

Zag: When did I say “how you think the authors are not worthy of whatever they write on this blog”. I never get conflicts with any one, I had some reservation about this entry but to get involved at personal level is beyond me. Start taking responsibility rather then hiding behind your captain. Regarding “hollow” words and your challenge, I could try that but I am not in Khi so it seems me unfair with vistors to write here. I could be any thing but not dishonest.Cool down my friend. Yah I come here to get views from different people and exactly it was my point. Could you please tell me what was the point of view of this particular post ?? Your reasoning sounds me very irrational my friend.

Umar: So much have been said about your comments so I do not want to add any thing :-) , You are a mom kid , ain’t you ??

Ajnabi: This is nothing to do with religion. Spirits of being Muslim , LMAO :-)

Faisal: I am not sure how could I expressed views much better but if any one has been following me then he knows that I never insult any one’s perspective and take all garbage very happily from others. I think comments here are more interesting than posts :-)

Darthvader : “he has real poop inside his head” You made my day , I really enjoyed that.

Shiraz cool down my friend, I dont like caps on. If I were you then I’d for sure ignore Original Anon’s comment. You just could not keep every one happy.

Original Anon: You are mean :-). English is not our mother tongue , all of us especially me did not get a chance to go to grammar school.(Actually my school was punjabi medium :-) and even I don’t know punjabi). I published few papers in last couple of years and every time my advisor said that I should get professional editor help and he paid for that via his research fund but he never asked me to improve my grammar. He said do always what you are good at and never care for this lil side items. My company has so many Chinese and some of them write such code that we could not imagine (atleast I would take one year just to understand that code) and if you listen to them and read their emails then you’d say “Jesus” but actually no one cares as long as they can make dreams true.

And yeah I would always raise my voice when ever I think we can improve.

  18. Zag (unregistered) on March 2nd, 2006 @ 11:05 am

PPH: You never said it explicitly in this post but I have read some of your comments on various posts where you have complained about that….. I never wanted to get into an argument, that’s why I never said anything in those posts, but now you commented on me and asked me to reply back, that’s why I did.

As for the responsibility rather than hiding behind the captain part…. the reason I said that was because I don’t want to get into petty arguments with anyone over here….. if you have a problem, take it up with the captain.

As for the reasoning of the post, I think I have explained it to the best of my urdu medium capabilities, if that’s not good enough for you, there’s nothing else I can do for you.

Oh, and the advice you gave to Shiraz was awesome, I think I will take some of it as well….. Allahhafiz!!

XIA: During all this bickering and pointing fingers, i almost missed the one reply that was actually related to the content of the post….. the said magazine is a Lifestyle magazine for Pak men…… and is more commonly known as Mr.

  19. Poo poo Head (unregistered) on March 2nd, 2006 @ 12:02 pm

Zag: Thanks for coming back to me and being sarcastic :-). The problem of Pakistan is that unless one get pinch in himself , he would not speak. You are a prime example of that, unless I did comment on your post, you never speak for others. Captain please note the attitude of your team.

First of all criticism does not mean at all that you are trash. It is intended for improvemnet.

Second I hate when people come up and do drama. See Inspirex post on today’s blast, just sounds like fox TV.

Most of the people(read authors) never really bring interesting news. Your captian goes to National Page of Dawn and bring news from there, what have we done to deserve that ?

“Urdu Medium” capabilities left a very bad taste, I don’t know why do some people have such complexes.

One blast post was enough and the two other authors should have posted in comments section of that. What a redundancy !!!! Do you people read other entries or are just self centered to ignore others.

Congrats Message post for Imtiaz does not deserve to be here. I ahve alreday given my reasons.(Sorry Imtiaz, you are not a subject still I owe you an apology)

Though I left a comment on QuratulAin entry, what it had to do with Khi, she should have posted that on her personal blog. Misuse of resources clearly.

How about Huma’s post about smokers/doctors. What it had to do with Khi except unfortunately she went to a dr. who accidentally practices in Khi.

Land Mafia Post ??? What is the authenticty of the post, I would never buy such a story if an author even does not have a courage to even mention area’s name. This was quite unprofessional of author not to come back at his post. I could make 10’s of such stories and put them. W/o proofs , every thing is accusation in civilized world.

Captain feels like drinking coke(read his post again). What it had to do with Khi. Yah I could come up with thousands of reasons for making it justified but not any of those would be fair to Khi “METRO BLOG”. Why doesn’t captain uses his personal blog (which is commercially hosted) for such a pathetic post ???

These are just comments on the posts on first page, I could go on for ever ,you could ask any one if any of my argument is invalid ???

Its not about bickering , its about the high expectations of readers who seem to have IQ over room temperature.

PPH: Sigh…. Final comment, after this, if I don’t respond you are free to label me whatever you want….

If you really want to help improve the site, there are other ways of doing that. One such way would be to join the group, but you have already ruled yourself out of that one. But besides you there are others who live in Karachi and keep complaining about the site and the authors as to how we behave like it is an exclusive group. For such people, we have already said before, this is a free blog, meaning you are more than welcome to join it and be a part of it. There is a limit of 20 bloggers for one city and if you look at the authors list on the right, there are only 12.

As for the Dawn thing, yes, you can read the news at the Dawn site, but you cannot discuss it over there. Since you have a blog, I am sure you already know that one of the main benefits of blogging is that the readers can discuss the posts. Btw, if an author authenticates the news by providing a link to the news site, he is copying it and is not good enough, but if someone doesn’t post the link (Land Mafia) it is just an accusation and not good enough. I guess you were right when you said, sometimes it’s not possible to satisfy everyone.

The Urdu Medium comment was to counter your Punjabi Medium comment, if you think it left a very bad taste then you got the meaning I intended with it……

For the congratulatory post, I have explained my reasoning, other readers have validated it, and if you think it didn’t deserve to be here, you should have ignored it and moved on to the next deserving post. When I post something, I don’t ask myself whether 100% of the readers will think of it as “deserving” or not!! If I did that, then it would not be FAIR.

Btw, in the previous post where you made a big fuss, Ramla took care of that and she didn’t need anyone’s help. As it is, if all of us would have jumped in, then we would have been called bullies jumping in on a poor commenter.

At the risk of repeating myself…… I hope that is not unfair…… this is my last comment on this post…..

    @poo poo head

Hey, why only the Grammar School?
How about us Karachi American School wallas?

  22. Original-anon (unregistered) on March 2nd, 2006 @ 7:08 pm

Well Poo Poo Noman ,you say why bother about grammar if the writer can make dreams come true, so let me point out that Shiraz sure wasn’t making any of my dreams come true :)
Shiraz – I refuse to have a battle of wits with an unarmed person.
I shall stop now because I have already used up all my meanness quota for the whole week:)

  23. Poo Poo Head (unregistered) on March 3rd, 2006 @ 1:21 am

Anon, why have you changed my last name ???? :-(

Zag, I made comments on many posts but you just touched few which means that you do agree with me.

Lastly, I hope that people would not keep any thing against me in their hearts (by the way I don’t care for that). I am in so lets just face it. I have been abused on this blog and I dont expect to be welcomed any how but when I can take loads of criticism so all we can. Happy blogging Zag, no hard feelings.

Poo Poo Head: This is what differs us from other cities and their posts of metroblog… We care about our people, each other, and our fellow Pakistanis!!

i was also going to say the post irrelevent but you came up with a good point, its not bad to know that some KMB blogger writes for some magazine.

as a kmb reader, this post helped me to learn about some new magazine,so its not 100% beyong the scope of KMB

@umar: i am surprised to read your response, very childish and depressing, its a real disappointment to read things from a guy who look mature.Change your attitude dude.NOBODY gonna dictate you anyway but this blog is not property of any of you either.Hope you would apologize from readers
