to anyone out there

i’m trying to get my hands on urdu newspaper archives in electronic version directly from the newspaper groups (so not from the internet). i tried to get in touch with JANG but they have hang ups about giving that sort of stuff to people (don’t know why). so the guy i spoke to at JANG said he’d ask his boss and get back to me but then just started avoiding my calls! does anyone know how i would be able to get my hands on this stuff? i need it for research purposes and any ideas at all would be much much appreciated!
why is it so hard to get this stuff?? i mean, don’t they print the newspapers and give them to millions of people and put it on the internet also?? why can’t a poor researcher get the same thing on cd????

Mahmud Hussain Library of KU has archives of all previous newspaper edition of Dawn and Jang I believe. Its a wonderful library with some very rare books.

library is the only suitable way. surely there must be some in karachi too with a seperate news papers section? i have used punjab library (they have a seperate section for old news papers and magzines) in lahore for this same purpose years ago. i was looking for 1951 archives and they even had complete news papers from 1930’s and 40’s. Quaid-i-Azam library has a reasonable collection of electronic archives too..but its in lahore too :)

from my experience..it would be difficult to get electronic version from news papers without a “connection/pawa” so go for library option

I can so relate! I’ve been hounding PTV for a documentary on Slum Lands. I need it for a work shop I’ll be conducting for a course im taking.

First I wanted a copy…they refused. Then I asked if i could borrow it…they still refused
Now i’m after them to give it to me for atleast 24 hours. even 12 would do. I’m that desperate.

If anyone else knows anyone/anyplace where I can get my hands on the documentary please let me know.
