Parks & Parking Lots

Yesterday, a news report was published about City Government’s decision to convert Jehangir Park on M A Jinnah Road into a parking lot. Although I’d hate any park being converted into something else, and I don’t buy into the excuse that since the park is in a pathetic state it should be converted, but I think that particular area desperately needs a Parking lot, especially multi-storied one.

Below is the reaction of a citizen that was published in Dawn today. What do you think about it? Should the government convert parks into Parking lots? If not, then what about only those areas that are very congested, like Saddar, MA Jinnah Road, Tariq Road, etc?

In this specific case, I would prefer a four story car parking with a park on the rooftop and a large amount of green plants hanging from every possible nook and cranny.

How about the CDGK razes down one of the ugly illegally constructed commercial plazas in Saddar to make space for a parking lot rather than a park? I am totally in opposition of converting any open spaces in our congested areas into concrete jungles. If its not being used by families so what? Cant a park be enjoyed by the traders who work in its vicinity? It still is providing some recreational grounds.
