Tambola Anyone?

Had a good time at Marina Club yesterday. Actually, at their family enclosure just besides Area51.

A full round of Tambola (a number calling game), live music, nice food (Dominos and desi barbeque and similar stuff), friendly atmosphere, towered by a star speckled sky and calm wind. Nice.

This is not one of those lonesome strolls though. You need friends and/or family to enjoy this event fully and also have a chance to win something. Take aways include tickets to Dubai, flat screen TVs, Sega, DVD players, different crockery, etc. I remember this old guy who actually danced to the tune of Baber’s “I would love you…” with the oomph of a tween after winning a Sony DVD player out of the lucky draw.

So, the next time you’re planning on some family activity or are bored of the usual outing. Go to Marina club.

PS: If you got some army contact or a Doctor in the family. Entry is free. Of course you’ll have to pay for the Tambola slips, which differ in between Rs. 700 to 150.

    100% correct. I don’t enjoy this blog anymore… but have we thought why??

  4. nina (unregistered) on March 27th, 2006 @ 12:03 pm

    I beg to differ. I still enjoy the blog, it’s this constant nit picking, squabbles bw the misanthropes, the overtly enthusiasts, the capitalists, the socialists, the fundamentalists and in general the shit heads that i don’t enjoy. If it’s not them, then the grammar brigade raises its pompous head. One person puts a post up, the rest attack him/her like a pack of vultures, dissecting and shredding down each word and argument. Is criticism just for the sake of criticism a healthy tendency? What are we adding to our life and those of the others this way? It’s insane….a shame….

    Gee Nina, if you are content with mediocrity, then all the more power to you dahling.

    there are authors who usually put up nice informative , insightful , sometimes
    thought-provoking posts( Dr.Alvi’s name comes to mind)and most readers and commentators respect them and enjoy their posts.and then , there are those (mostly invited one’s) who usually put up crap and deserve all the heat and flak that is thrown at them which ,to me , is just as fair. piques up things and makes the blog all the more interesting and liverlier , i say .
    btw the last comment has added so much to my life and my heart is so fulfilled that i think i am gonna give up grad school and just walk the earth for a while.

    Yo Yo and Zain, don’t visit this site anymore then. The readers will get a clean blog to read in the least.

    Faisal, grammar brigade? Have you heard of the thing called proper punctuation?

  8. nina (unregistered) on March 27th, 2006 @ 2:43 pm

    @Faisal
    eeerr Faisal, content or contented???? More power to the grammar brigade by all means!!! Fine! I might be propogating mediocrity, but what are you bringing to the table? In what ways your sarcasm enriching the blog? I have refrained from commenting up till this point and have chosen to be a silent reader instead because i felt that i didn’t have much to add (not that i am adding much now, besides being part of this silly squabble).

    @Nina
    Sorry to criticize your criticism but ‘content’ is correct.
    As far as bringing something to the table, I actually would rather read Faisal’s comments than many of the posts here since I too enjoy good writing.

    Come on MB KHI authors..Give us some controversial topics…

    I am feeling like eating RAW meat…RRRRRR

    Lately this Blog has been taken over by soft-serve authors and their lackeys.

    Where is our Karachi self respect…i.e to tear & destroy.

  11. Faisal (unregistered) on March 27th, 2006 @ 10:36 pm

    @Nina

    Please look up the meaning of the word “contend” and then compare it to the definition of the word “content”.

    “In what ways your sarcasm enriching the blog?”

    As someone who is true to his glorious “grammar brigade” (by the way, this term was coined by you) heritage, I must comment on the above sentence written by you. Do you not see the glaring error in your sentence? Ever heard of the word “is”?

    Regarding your sentiments about not having much to add to this blog, let me reassure you dahling, you still do not have much to add.

  12. Original-anon (unregistered) on March 27th, 2006 @ 10:46 pm

    @Faisal – I noticed that missing ‘is’ too.
    @Nina – For some reason your comments remind me of a line from a song I was listening to today.
    ‘It’s hard to hold the hand of anyone
    who is reaching for the sky just to surrender’

    Gee, guys grow up!
    whats wrong with Afreen’s post? okay if its not thought provoking but it might have helped someone in some way.
    u dont always have to be so critical of everything. u have ur complaints, give em to the moderator, why discourage ppl frm posting??

  14. Darthvader (unregistered) on March 27th, 2006 @ 11:39 pm

    okay i will grow up now.

  15. nina (unregistered) on March 28th, 2006 @ 10:09 am

    @Faisal & Anon: content? yes i stand corrected! But i never claimed to be part of the grammar brigade (its a good word!) nor did i claim to add anything! i just questioned your contribution, and haven’t got a reply so far (you have none to offer)! Frankly whatever you have said so far is about grammar. What have you done so far besides nit picking? Your concept of holding someone’s hand is akin to pulling someone’s leg!

    O__O

    Guys! This was just a “review” of a place I visited. I always appreciate constructive criticism, but non-related flaming is just no use here.

    If you like to be heard or say anything to me personally, you can always email me.

    @Nina, tell me why I should prove to you whether I add anything to the blog. I view this as a place to interact with other Karchiites, discuss many different things – music, sports, poetry; that is all there is to it. We do like to argue, we present many different perspectives and I talk to people here that I would never meet otherwise.
    Afreen, please do note that I did NOT mention or start anything negative about your post, I merely responded to a comment (I am somewhat touchy about that subject right now).Again, my apologies for digressing from your original post (twice in one day – not a good recrod at all) which I thought was fine and told us what was going on in Karachi – which we expats love to hear out.So thanks dear.
