Guy: Come on hunz, ill do anything for you.
Girl: Ok, only if you tell me whats the song playing on 96 fm right now

u’d be surprised wht FM 96 uncovers about life in karachi.. its a generally accepted rule that the upper class kids (zamzama, defence etc) have adopted more or less a american high school life, with parties and proms and what not…. (dating is now just a part of it), but now, this rule is extended even to other classes and parts of the city.

    @ MR PROFANITY : good one !

Sad.. I didn’t realize PK was turning into a wasteland of defence burgers

  6. Naila (unregistered) on March 29th, 2006 @ 9:59 am

I am not burger but did fell in love with a guy of my dreams and most of my girlfriends too. Some of us are fortunate enough to marry our sweet hearts. There is nothing wrong in falling in love for the right reasons. Our prophet also met his first wife when he used to work for her. BTW I used to live in Liaquatabad.

    you mean Porn?

@naila:Glad to find someone from LA(liaqat abad),I am not one, yess falling in love is not wrong and by the way,why do we quote Islam and verses/hadith for our own intrest? The prophet(SAW) did marry Khadijah(RA) with His own choice but that was NOT a typical love affair,go and read the reasons behind it.Would you quote Islam when it teaches about Hijab and not getting mingled with Na-mahrams?

These are the fruits of so-called moderation and enlightenment. This has been spread to the middle classes as well, which is more of a concern now.

  10. Afreen (unregistered) on March 29th, 2006 @ 12:33 pm

Adnan, it is actually “prom” rather than what you mentioned. A get-together after graduation or any kind of passing out (like High School) ceremony, with an official ball, food and drinks, etc.

Coming back to the topic. Well, it’s the reality of today that we gotta KNOW. It’s been going on since years, all hushed-up. Now in the open with the help of Media, I hope it helps in decreasing the confusion rather than escalation.

anyone remember December 2004 Newsline’s cover story, “the bold and the beautiful”, was all about fornicationa nd living it up in style to avoid being social outcasts.

Salutations to Mr. Profanity. excellent answer =D

as for the radio ad. erm. isnt city fm 89 all about dating and stuff all the time? no offence to anyone from fm89. we’re all accustomed to the environment, really.

  13. IllusionFS (unregistered) on March 29th, 2006 @ 3:05 pm

Inspirex, it seems you dont listen to radio much as I have heard the F word being aired live.
Oh and did I tell you abt the enigma or some other song in which i heard a girl moaning. I am not sure if it was 89 or 96. I am more than certain thta PEMRA is dumb as hell.

  16. Inspirex (unregistered) on March 29th, 2006 @ 5:52 pm

Illusion: yes i do listen to good deal of radio, considering the distances i travel everyday.

Ive heard a lot more than just the f word. The hip hop playing on 96 is sometimes outright porn.

But i raised this issue cos its an ad thats being repeated regularly. The rest are one time unplanned slips that take place just too often.

I’m surprised they expect people to waste their money to SMS a radio station — thats just dumb — if people want to know what’s playing they should just switch the dial on their radios. If they’re not near a radio, why would they want to know whats playing at that instant — by the time the get to a radio, the song will be over.

Shame on anyone who SMS’s them.

  20. omer khan (unregistered) on March 30th, 2006 @ 12:51 pm

what is wrong with you people?!
its not only 96! :@ why are you guys targeting 96 listen to 89, 91, 107 and even 100 they all have profanities and F words on it..so what!?
people grow up….your acting like bunch of babies who say ” awe ” on the f word! come on….and even if you guys have a problem with the content they play….your the ones who listen to the radio and tell those to what you want to hear…huh!
turn your radios off if you dont wanna listen!!

  21. iD (unregistered) on March 30th, 2006 @ 1:30 pm

OMER KHAN: You may be right that we gotta break the shell and accept these things
but the way I am looking at it, f word on radios are more like “yeah we are cool” then f word itself.
Offcourse we cant live in a shell and keep ourselves away from all the crap going on around the globe. but is it really neccessary to go for such things?
I live in UK and I’ve been listening to radios for ages and still waiting to see if someone says any f word. having f words in hip hop is normal cuz its very hard to find hip hop without f words but in conversation it should be muted or beeped or in short censored.
    oh yeah
let me know how would u feel when u’ll hear B word (urdu one) on radio?

    its more like is like

  22. Zainuddin Zafar (unregistered) on March 30th, 2006 @ 3:11 pm

you should listen to the song called ‘play’ by David Banner. Unarguably the most expilicitly lyriced song i have heard to date.

  23. Anathema (unregistered) on March 30th, 2006 @ 8:27 pm

@IllusionFs: enigma’s music is targetted as “love music”, or should i say, physical passion.

erm. yes maybe the RJ didnt realise the song was all about that. the first album is all about that. but soemtimes these slip ups happen. accidents happen.

as for the ad. its a silly ad. but the truth of the matter is all channels are promoting this stuff. and so. can u point fingers at a single one alone?

  24. Adnan Siddiqi (unregistered) on March 31st, 2006 @ 12:02 pm

lets see when celebs like Ayesha Alam use F word on TV ;)

To AdnanWould you quote Islam when it teaches about Hijab and not getting mingled with Na-mahrams?

I wasn’t quoting Islam just for my convenience. It’s happen so that nowadays my fellow country men try to see everything through religion. Forgetting about the tradition our prophet had provided for us and making their kids to accept forceful nuptials. As for hijab and stuff, well hijab isn’t invented at the time of Islam. Can I ask you why Muslim men mind only revolve around the women attire? Are you so weak that you cannot control your nafs on your own so we have to cover our selves for your flaw? Islam is not about controlling women only its so much more.

As for radio then guys change the station. You all complain about banning the blog on the basis of free speech then let others follow the tradition too.

@Naila:the question you asked me about Nafs or Men’s nature,I think you need a study of Quran with translation of same issue,I am not sure its Surah Nisa or what, but its explained in details that Why Hijab was ordered and FYI lady,Hijab is not Islamic invention, ancient hindu holy books also preached about Hijab and there are verses in their books in which women were asked to follow Hijab.

You asked why can’t we control ourself? The answer is Western Society which have gone to extreme in filthy things, ever thought why we hear terms like “Single Mother” or “Single Parent”?Men has a nature and one can’t deny it ,that is majority of men are not stronger to control themselves for not staring women.I dont know women don’t stare but ratio is lesser than men, why?I don’t know at all,I am not a creator at all.

Second Islam gave Women much respect and Importance then any other religion or cult.Whether its a daughter,a wife or a mother, they have been respected a lot.Islam compares woman with a precious stone, for instance Diamon or other precious ornaments which are kept covered by jewellers in boxes for sake of protecting them from any harm, hijab concept also gives upper hand to woman, that is they are not to exhibit themselves but covering themselves.

anyways i know these things are pretty Odd for you since you would be one of those *moderated muslim woman* who fights for so called ‘Women’s rights’,ignoring the fact that woman is screwed more than other woman then a man.

And in last,it was you who was using Islam as excuse for love affairs, not Me,so before pointing out fingers on others,do notice three fingers which are towards you.

P.S: I dont care whatever the heck you wear or wear nothing, none of my business but don’t use islam for your own sake please. If covering body is *controlling* then i feel pitty for you,I personally know professional women who use Hijab and doing best in their fields and i am sure most of them would be a lot better than you too and Modern as well.If covering body(men or women) makes him/her conservative then i think one should fee himself/herself from clothing to demonstrate so called *liberty*,by the way I am not one of those who believes in Musharraf’s pathetic theory of *modern islam*.Read Quran, you will find lots of answers rather imposinf your own theories.

Not sure then don’t quote it.

What are you doing watching the western woman. If west is so bad then stop applying for their visas. There are millions of Jammati’s ( I am presuming that you are Jammati as you presumed that I am Pro Musraf and Hijab Less) are flocking to the west and trying to impose suffocating laws on everyone. If life in Muslim countries are so comfortable then why are your fellow believers are coming here in thousands. You have a western invention Internet on your hand search about single mothers and see who they actually are.

Men has a nature and one can’t deny it ,that is majority of men are not stronger to control themselves for not staring women.I dont know women don’t stare but ratio is lesser than men, why?I don’t know at all,I am not a creator at all.

I don’t think Man is still a beast like in the fourteenth century that creature has evolved. Woman is not a sexual being for him anymore. She got mind of her own.

    P.S. TO BE CONTINUED

    guys guys….
we talk about westurn society ….look at India man….i think they are filthy i dont mean to offend any indian brother…but i think they have gone a little too far with nudity and sexy things…like sometimes its awesome! they have the hottest babes….wearing almost nothing at all but a few pieces of small cloth cut into fancy shapes an all that…..an our society is more influenced by the indian culture..like those dramas man…people have started naming common things after the characters in them…like how freaking stupid is that…and another example would be the gang culture we get from their movies, G O D !!! like sajnay dutt flashs he knifes with his pathetic lingu and our people get so influenced and impressed they start dressing up like him…

anyways….i tihnk we dont even have a culture of our own…and even if we do…it doesnt exist..so lets drop this…

and people….mind telling what has islam got to do with the bloody radio!?…come on why do we have to drag religion into everything?!
stop doing that people …this is one reason our country has lagged for decades…

I know this is going out of hand and out of topic.

    As for Hijab and stuff
Let The Women decide what is best for her. We don’t demand from Men to live like medieval times so respect our wishes too and don’t push anything on us.

I am little bit sentimental about this issue as during my university years in Karachi Jamaati (Student wing of Jamaat-e-Islami) used to spray bleach on the girls who are seen in the company of man. In broad daylight with thousands of students around them those girls aren’t doing anything wrong besides talking to the boys and in return scared for life. When one guy objected to it he was shot in the middle of the English department. Later it was claimed that he was drinking water during Ramzan so Jammat had taught him a lesson. It was during Zia regime and out of fear noone talked about it. Those Jamaati’s just talk and act like Adnan. If its not for internet still I cannot able to tell this to the world. I am not against dialogue I do respect other people’s faith but I hate it when people do it under the umbrella of Islam. As for India it’s a democratic nation so they are fully capable to care of it through that means. We are behind because our nation has stopped educating the masses. We need to have democratic leaders who can be accounted for their actions.

For Radio add let the radio station decide what to air and what not to until its not harming anyone.

P.S. Read the comments by Adnan to everyone else, and see how sick he is. He even threatened to on a strike (MMA) on such a petty issue. Apparently we have uprooted every evil in the society. There is no crime is taking place in Utopia Pakistan like sexual abuse in Mosques, domestic abuse, no one is going hungry to bed, there is no child begging on the streets, no one killing, no one picket pocketing but there are boys and girls who trying to fall in love in the Biggest evil in the World which should be counter act by a strike.

this is in response to Omi’s post.
guys,i am from Bombay,India.omi is right when he says that there seems to be a lot of pornography depicted in indian movies and music videos, but there are two sides to the coin.on the one side, the very reason that these videos are shown on air is because there is an overwhelming demand for them amongst the indian audience.on the flip side, there are alsoa lot many right-wing activists and the ‘moral police’ which raises voices against these things.
the present day india is undergoing massive changes in the peoples attitudes and psyche,on the one hand the youth, at least urban youth is totally into western culture.take a look at bombay,it seems a far cry from small-town india in its outlook, dressing, social life, party culture etc.but on the other hand, there are people who greatly value traditional indian wisdom and are proud of their rich heritage.
there’s just a huge generation gap,and the sooner this is sorted out,the better it is for the indian society as a whole.
