Wikipedia Blocked in Pakistan for seven hours

In a very surprising development the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority which controls the Pakistan Internet Exchange had blocked access to the entire Wikipedia.org domain at around 1:00pm. Immediately the AGABBIP group and the Don’t Block the Blog team were set into motion. The ban was not localized to any single ISP but was throughout Pakistan, after seven hours of pursuance by the activists the ban was suddenly lifted. We just barely missed a Censorship of Knowledge in seven quick hours.

wow! that post read like a line out of a horror story! we’re lucky there are already activists out there to stop such stupidity by the Pakistani Govt. I dont think theres any use of their trying to restrict free speech and free info in this day and age at all. Not gonna achieve anything. Freedom will always prevail.

So what’s stopping them from blocking the sites that link to sites that contain the cartoons? Next thing we know, they’ve blocked Google, MSN, etc. Or MAYBE we might just turn into China and have pages blocked based on keywords. Morons!
