Here is the latest “thing” to be put up.
Apparently its the art that will bless the former Schon Circle…
Any guesses what this is?

I think it signifies how SCREWED UP the situation in Karachi is.

  4. Razi (unregistered) on April 17th, 2006 @ 8:02 pm

    A fastening device used in garments :) :) :)
Specially since the circle is sponsored by a company heavy into the garment industry

This is worse than placing a rusted tank or submarine on the Circle.

hmm. To me it looks like “D man” trying to stand on this head.
“D” with 2 legs but no hands, with a small “paghri” going crazy.

I hope whatever it is there in the picture is incomplete… because it makes no sense in the current condition.

at least it’s not a missile or a tank! thank god for small mercies.

I hope they place a book on it ! Otherwise it just looks like an amateur work of Art.

looks like ‘allah’ to me, and if it is then probably the most different one in khi.

  13. Jay the big J (Jamash) (unregistered) on April 18th, 2006 @ 12:43 am

@Little : If the two loops are connected then it might be Allah But to really figure out what it is we will have to see from all 3 Dimensions.

  14. yo yo (unregistered) on April 18th, 2006 @ 12:54 am

NOTE….This piece of art is not complete yet.

It is missing ” Tution center, german Dawa khana and Baray Hakeem sahab’s” advertisment posters.

I must urge all readers to stop speculating what it is before this is completed.

wow, that thing really is hideous …
Someone really needs to question the authorities over their choice of street artist or space filler or roundabout decorator or whatever other title is given to the moron who produces these monstrosities. They might as well have a big ‘WTF?!’ sign underneath coz thats exactly the reaction this will elicit from passers-by.

On a more cheerful note it’ll make giving directions that much easier:

    Me: “Where are you?”

Lost Boy: “I dunno … oh wait, what the f*** is that?! Its the most horrendous thing I’ve ever seen!”

Me: “great! you’re on the right track … take the next left”

from what i know of the FWO, probably has some religious undertone to it… maybe spells out Allah from some angle or da other.. i wouldnt put it past them.

but really enjoyed the rest of the comments! lol!

  21. Ramla A. (unregistered) on April 18th, 2006 @ 10:42 am

Me too thinks someone PERHAPS tried to make a sculpture of the word ALLAH. God bless them, because this looks truly hideous. Actually I wouldn’t say the first thing that came to my mind.

  22. Erum (unregistered) on April 18th, 2006 @ 11:43 am

This is freaky .. i wonder what it is. Looks like a handle or hook for something. Hope this isn’t the complete version.

Rolling stones label – upside down?

  24. Moiz Kazmi (unregistered) on April 20th, 2006 @ 1:20 am

i agree with faisal siddiqui it might be the D man upside down.

The powers that be in karachi really lack even a trace aesthetic sense, contrary to the ones in lahore. This is evident from the hideous monstrosities raised at several public places in the name of art/advertising/marketing. Funny then how we karachites look down upon our lahori compatriots.

  26. redsnapper (unregistered) on April 20th, 2006 @ 11:03 am

    D-man yes.

This happened some time back when the youngest of the D-man family was taking diving lessons. Unfortunately (and as evident by the invisible head), he missed the water.

    Ouch.

  27. ny (unregistered) on April 20th, 2006 @ 2:35 pm

seems like the artist missed the middle finger in it!! ;)

  28. Ashar Ahmed (unregistered) on April 21st, 2006 @ 2:26 am

    I knowwwww what it izzzzz….ofcourse !!

It’s a replica of Muhammad Bin Qasim’s bottom part of the sword which is used to hold it. the top part of the sword was damaged while killing Raja Dahir. No wonder they will install it on the ‘Gateway 2 Sindh” in Karachi !

It was soooo simple and you guys couldn’t guess..humph !
