I share both the concern and the appreciation people above have already expressed, if people react to this positively then this ought to be of serious help in removing the taboos and stereotype associated with “special” people in Pakistan society, but that will require people visiting this KFC branch to show quite a level of maturity and sense. A brave move by KFC nevertheless, and you’ve got to commend it. Good to see not everyone is driven by the sole aim of earning more money but are also eager to realise their social responsibilities and are eager and willing to contribute positively to such responsibilities. Good to know.

Its a delight to see the efforts of Mckenzie foods, Cupola group to provide an oppurtunity for the handicapped, but like few others I do have my fears that people will react negatively to it because of the lack of patience in our society.

Anyways, lets hope for the best. Thumbs up to cupola.

OVACEROO: This KFC will go a long way in erasing the stereotype of disabled people in our country. I think it will make a lot of people aware that people with handicaps are also just as human and just as capable as we all are. You are right that we as a country do not appreciate such people and think they only deserve pity. In my opinion, places like this are the ones that can really make a difference in people’s thinking.

I have a bad feeling about this … civic sense is really lacking in our country and I hate to think that people might start poking fun at the staff. Also I must add that it is wrong to interpret this as a ‘concept’ restaurant; as if to say that the staff’s disability is something to marvel at. Gunsmoke went the ‘concept’ route with the whole slamming-things-on-the-table and emptying-ashtrays-on-the-floor malarkey … no doubt amusing initially but like any other concept, eventually expired. If Cupola intended this as a public service, kudos to them … its about time the stereotypical notion of disability involving a lifetime of dependance was erased from the general Pakistani mentality.
