One of a kind KFC in Karachi

I just got back from the newly opened KFC opposite Urdu College in Gulshan-e-Iqbal. Or rather I should say Urdu University, not Urdu College. This is a one of a kind concept restaurant, with all the staff being hearing impaired (deaf). To communicate with them you need to use sign language, and there is a comprehensive guide on each table which tells you basic sign language as well as a little detail of the concept. A well-thought out concept and a very nice idea!

Green Gray Lakes

Most of us have probably seen that huge lake of sewage water near Boat Basin, which makes quite a fetching sight in the moonlight and only if you keep the windows rolled down. However, one of our readers Tee Emm has reported that they are planning to convert the lake into a residential area, probably as DHA Phase 10/11/12. Somehow, this has disaster spelled all over it. A few years ago, the authorities that rule over our city decided to convert a similar sewage lake near Phase 7 into a residential area. Of course, once people tried constructing anything, the sewage began to seep into the foundations. They’re already reclaiming the beach front, do the authorities plan to ‘reclaim’ every inch of land they see?

Thanks to Tee Emm for the suggestion :)

Chack de Phatte!

We all know that W11 from Karachi was shown at the Common wealth Games of 2006.

The Aussi crowd loved our rang-birangi, lashakar-e-daar minibus. They were fascinated by it so much that they turned their local tram into one!

Above is the screenshot of the video taken of the Karachi to Melbourne Tram. Not only this tram’s decorated like a typical Karachiite minibus, but it even has complimentary Punjabi music playing, on which the passengers are hopping about. Especially notice the conductor who cannot stop jigging. ;)

You can find the video here.

Thanks to krachi4eva for the tip.

Metroblogging Azeroth

All right, this is ultra cool. Azeroth is the newest city in the Metroblogging Network. But what the heck is Azeroth, you ask. Well, if you don’t know then you are obviously not into MMORPG. Azeroth is the virtual world in the online game World of Warcraft. 6 million people live together and hang out with each other in Azeroth. And the blog is dedicated to life in Azeroth. It’s really worth checking out if you are into gaming and all.

A case of Shame

I don’t know if there is any Hyderabad Blog or forum around (a credible one if not popular) and I don’t know if I should post this one here but I felt so upset over the news that three kids being locked up in Hyderabad by police on the charge of theft. What a nation we are. So many left the country after plundering the nation with billions and now enjoying their lives abroad and nothing done against them in years now and a 6 year old, a long with two others ( 7 years and 12 years) being locked up for stealing an object (may be a 100 rupee note or a 500 one). And guess what, the district magistrate of Hyderabad handed the kids over to police for one more day on remand.

This is just not a case of police mishandling. It’s rather a case of human values declining fast in our society. Yesterday I was watching Javaid Chaudhry on PTV. He rightly pointed out a point which I don’t know how many picked. He said we are not far behind in materialistic progress from WEST. What we are lacking, & continuously on a road of decline is moral progress or social ethics. A lawyer rightly called the magistrate a “wahshi” in his comments in news yesterday.

The latest news is all the three have been released (http://jang.com.pk/thenews/apr2006-daily/18-04-2006/main/update.shtml#12) but I just wonder how many of such incidents reach a big news channel like GEO.

People need to be made aware of their rights which they don’t know. The situation in this case is very pathetic even for the literates, what to talk about illiterates. His major concern is having bread every day. We, the ones with the power of communicational resources need to contribute in our capacity as such incidents take place around us but we ignore. They are humans too, remember. They are our brothers & sisters.

Die hard
