Yahan Se Shehr ko Dekho…

YahaN se sheher ko dekho to halqa-dar-halqa
Khinchi hai jail ki soorat har ek samt faseel
Har ek rahguzar gardish-e-aseeraaN hai
Na sung-e-meel, na manzil, na mukhlisi ki sabeel

Jo koi tez chaley rah to poochta hai Khayal
Ke tokne koi lalkaar kyuN naheeN aayee
Jo koi haath hilaye to Wahem ko hai sawal
Koi chanak, koi jhankaar kyuN nahiN aayee?

YahaN se shehr ko dekho to saari khalqat meiN
Na koi sahab-e-tamkeen, na koi wali-e-hosh
Har ek mard-e-jawaN mujrim rasn ba gulu
Har ek haseena-e-raana, Kaneez-e-halqa bagosh

Jo sayay duur chiraghoN ke gird larzaaN haiN
Na janey mehfil-e-ghum hai ke bazm-e-jaam-o-saboo
Jo rung har dar-o-deewar par pareshaaN haiN
YahaN se kuch naheen khulta yeh phool haiN ke LahU

@Adnan .. ” dont know why we dont have such poets and writers anymore.”

.. cause people have better things to do i guess … hehe ab woh din gai kay ghalib ke tarah tun ho ker log sher waghera bolna shuroo karain… most of the guys do other stuff after they get the buzz.

Zia,i mean inqilabi shayri jis k waja se hakoomat-e-waqt jail bhej deti hay.Faiz was sent jail many times in his life.Offcourse when he will write things like “Hum dekhain gay, lazim hay k hum bhe dekhay gay” and “Bol k lab azaad hain terey”.Such things pissed Ziaulhaq very much at that time.

Ahmad faraz could do something but I thnk he has compromised.

    BTW:ghalib was not a Poet.He was a genius poet.

    Thank you, Striker and Adnan.

@ Adnan, it’s quite sad that we don’t get such poetry now a days. Le sigh to our time.

@ Xia, simply ZOQ khatm ho gaya hai. *shakes head*

yeh hum desi always try to ulat the hukoomat’s takhta. why not let the hukoomat do whatever the hell they are doing and we go and invent something.??

As far as my zoq and shauq, alhumdulillah zoq is there but shauq rakhney ka time nahin hai.

@Adnan… My apologies if it offended you but seriously, tell me aaj kal shair kaisay zinda reh sakta hai? Agar woh kuch bolay to masla, na bolay to masla…
As far as writers are concerned, yes we need those. Motivational writers, who can teach these morons (student political activists) to find some other ways to use their precious time.

PS: Ghalib was a good poet no doubt. I still remember what I had to go through because of him in my intermediate classes.

    @ Hafiz, Zaberdast! ;)

Xia, don’t blame Ghalib for our outdated Urdu text books. Oh man, I still rememember the horror of learning so much! Unfortunately the board still think rote-learning works! O__o

no bro I was ot offended, yes u r true, poet ka koi future nahi but they dont know the strength of the pen.

I still remember what I had to go through because of him in my intermediate classes.

haahhhaa, but i started liking him when i completed my high school and become regular listener of Jagjit then I bought Deewan–eghalib and read all excluding persian verses.Specially one shair is really awesome and feels that ghalib said this for our so called NGOs and liberals and human rights acitivist who talks sweet but are evil in real.

The interest in this thread reflects the passion for Karachi walas in their city. The image is very appropriate and compliment’s the Faiz Sahib’s lyrics very well.

In many ways, Karachi remains JEWEL of the EAST and a City of Lights for its inhabitants and associates.

@AFREEN: Nice post in a crowded space, fresh air indeed.
