Mr. Soomro’s Mercedes Vs Daal Chawal

Our ill-mental politicians, in their love for status have decided to plunder this nation with ways and means available to them. The Senate Chairman Muhammad Mian Soomro who has, according to the news, placed the demand before the Senate’s finance Committee for a Mercedes worth more than one crore & has said to have got a verbal approval.

And guess what? Why he needs the Mercedes. So that he can have an equal status to National Assembly Speaker Chaudhry Amir Hussain. So now Mr. Soomro is getting jealous of Mr. Amir Hussain. Our parliamentarians have nothing better to do then to work hard for personal benefits.

Alright now, come to another topic: The government is considering allowing one meal in marriages events. If we all remember well the government put the policy of banning meal on the pretext (or reasoning) that it is causing extravagant spending. So logically one meal of daal chawal is an extravagant spending according to that rule and the Mercedes is not. Wow, does this make any sense?

It would be better off having donkeys in our parliament than these sick minded people. Donkey can at least bear the burden that will be carried upon them to a great efficiency. Its been 3 years now and all that these politicians talk of is wardi utaro , wardi pehno, nawaz sharif ko bulao, usko bhagao, es ko ghumao etc , fight for seats, ministries, election alliances, & now this Mercedes. Where the hell is this human called a “common man” is in their agenda?

Who the hell are they to plunder our tax money like this? We as educated citizen need to voice against such a looting. Its shame & sad that our destiny lies in the hands of such few sick minded individuals who are doing so much harm to our national exchequer. And shame to those who have given approval to him. They are equally responsible for such a plundering. Not a wonder if they have got their “part” of the deal.

Learn some lesson from the Indians who are proud to use their own cars and the world has a lot more respect for them then our money patients.

Well i agree. Both of our politicians are really mentally sick people. they just want to be in government and dunt want to do any thing. Well they even dunt deserve for a single donkey car & he is asking for Mercedes. They are just like a thali ka began or u can say them lotta. They are just plundering our country. And u will see government will approve his request and will gave him a 1 coror Mercedes. If government spends this money on construction of our country or the betterment of poor then we could become a developed country rather to it to give these sick politicians. They know that our country is in burden of financial debt and still he want it. Alas!

See the GDP of UK and see where their prime Minister lives and see how that house looks like. Now compare that house with exotic luxorious Prime Minister House of a country where 33% lives under poverty line

Please please MB … Yaar, it’s been a long time since I’ve commented on English mistakes but yaar there is just one mistake that just glaringly stood out as I read your post. And it happens to be one of my pet peeves.

“It would be better off having donkeys in our parliament then these sick minded”

In this sentence, the word “THAN” should be used rather than the word “THEN”. There is a big difference between the two words.

Well, you have to accept it that it’s not just a few ill-minded people that have hijacked the nation. Unfortunately, the whole nation is to be blamed for this. Corruption, is not the game of the few elites ruinning our country, rather it has become a part of our national character. Corruption is rooted deep down into our system, everyone who gets a chance to grab some illegal money does it happily. Look at transparency international rankings, for the last decade we have been in the top ten list of the most corrupt countries in the world.
Look at 2005 rankings, still Pakistan is 5th MOST CORRUPT COUNTRY IN THE WORLD !!!
Thats how bad we are. Just simply disgusting and shocking !!! Isn’t it ??
Our mullahs keep shouting America is evil, they are this, they are that. All the west is Islam’s enemy………. and so on. OK, US might be doing wrong things, but what the hell are we doing good for our country…. Simply Looting it???

FAISAL you wasted your precious 6 lines just to say this simple thing:”Change then into than”.

You could have said some important lines regarding the post as well in the meanwhile.

The misplaced _then_ bothered you so much that you wrote 6 lines for that whereas you didn’t even bother to think about the gist of the article, it’s a shame for our nation that we have started producing immunes

Wow dude, you must have a quite a free time to work hard on this but you did not bother commenting anything on such an important issue. Amazing. Kaheen aap Soomro ke relative toh nahi ? Lol. They are right who say that we waste half of our energies pulling legs. Bhai agar us ne than ko then likh dia toh itna bara issue banana ki kia zarorat thi. Khush hojao bhai aap us ne correction kerdi ab

You are right Badar. Just look at a common everday example, if a rickshaw drive asks you more money than what his meter could have billed (remember meters are an endangered species in Karachi) and the moment you gave him both are involved in corruption!

We live in a so-called “Democracy” and a democracy demands that we keep a check on such extravagant and self-serving activities by sick people in our parliaments. We can protest against stupid stuff going on in Isreal or America but we dont do anything when it comes to news items like this. So in the end, we ourselves are to blame for the government’s excesses.
Sunday morning at 11:00 in front of the press-club sound good? A few placards with bold letters, some people showing up and a call to GEO News to give coverage to it should do the trick…

car blast kardo!!!!!!!!! :D ,i dont personally like amer liaqat but his statment was very appropiate for the politicians when he wished tht if it was in hand,he would have sent all these politicians to Iraq to fight against americans and Mushie got so happy that He made him minister.I wonder did he include Altaf or not.
I watched an Indian movie called Pukar ,starred Anil kapoor and he was given ministry for a day and he changed everything,i wish it happen in pakistan:>

why MMA dont protest when govt increase the salary of assembly members?

  12. MB (unregistered) on May 7th, 2006 @ 12:15 am

Because MMA is a bunch of Retarded People who have the tool of religion to play with. They twist and turn religion according to their desires.

Had they been sincere to people they would have protested against INJUSTICE, LAWLESSNESS, POVERTY, BRIBERY etc rather then wardi utaro, falan ko reha karo and that bullshit drive against bill boards in Peshawar ( They are screwed up in all sense).

How about informing news channels about our presence as a group that represents a large population of online Karachi citizens so they take our words seriously.

Who are these gals Huma and Ramla?

Whom they belong and what they can do for us in this regard?

Amir liaquat himself burst out at some traffic police wala for having tinted car windows. He assumed himself out of law, Westerners should be commended in this regard, where law is same for all.

MMA doeonst protest because they are aalso the part of the these legislative houses

I dont know about Pukar but in “Nayak” Anil kapoor got the one-day Chief Ministry and he suspended everyone from CM to the corrupt Dukandar who found short of their Jobs.

Can anyone dare to do this here? “

  15. wasiq (unregistered) on May 7th, 2006 @ 4:49 am

Nayak is a good movie and Anil Kapoor is a great actor….but this kind of rash heroism should not be allowed or encouraged in a civilised society.
Mr Soomro is a very seasoned parliamentarian he deserves better…i think he should be allowed to import an american model cadilac or something……

@Faisal – really, you and your pet peeves :) Or maybe I should say ‘we, the grammar brigade and our pet peeves’. Glad to see you are still carrying on the good fight, I’ve just about given up.If I were to start correcting, a lot of these posts would be entirely rewritten.
To the rest: As far as the issue in the post goes, we all know what will happen, we will just get a little angry, a little sarcastic and then life will go on as usual. Nothing constructive is going to come out except perhaps people can vent their frustrations here about our ‘ill-mental’ rulers.

Faisal , I hope you are doing fine .

MB : This news could be true but please do not post any Indian Links. No I am not racist nor nationalist but I surf web a lot and I have no faith left in Indian Media. Could you please post any reliable source for this news.

By the way who cares if he is getting new car ?? Atleast I dont , if I were then I would have started campaign “DONT LET HIM BUY NEW CAR” but I guess people are just too busy in getting media publicity. I am tired of all this attitude. Who is gonna read this blog and the people who are reading , they would know it by other means eventually. Go out and protest against dictator who has appointed 600 retired soldiers on civilian posts. I am sick of educated class of Pakistan who all think that dictatorship is better than democracy. They would never understand that in long run , its going to hurt. People today always say that that Pakistan did great in 60’s , even Korea used 5 years plan of Pakistan but they always forget when dictator Ayub got away , the result was Bangladesh, all the good things of 60’s gave us Bangladesh. Bravo ..

I am sorry if I sound bitter but f*ck you Pakistanis , you deserve it.

” Who would be the best for Amrish puuri role?arabab Raheem or Pervez Elaahi?:D ” That was hilarious, Lolz

As for other sources, I heard this on FM89 Show as well which is aired in the afternoon & it was on May-06. The RJ literally humiliated Soomro and co with a statistical info regarding this Mercedes and a 90 million house etc. As for the Chaudhry Amir Hussain it did came in DAWN as well.

@HUMA @RAMLA: Are they reading this all or not? Will they reply positive?

  21. mansoor (unregistered) on May 7th, 2006 @ 1:42 pm

hmm.. its seems everyone has done a pretty good job in shouting up this issue in both the positive and negative.. but i’ll still put in my 2 paisa’s worth..

    1. Totally agree with the fact that corruption is an inbred characteristic of our nation, and can be found within everyone.

    2. IMO Politicians make all these ‘loot maar’ tactics because of one fact. They will not be there to suffer the consequence. It’ll be their successors who have to bear that out.. and in their turn, they’ll put the blame one their predecessors while making loot-mars of their own.

    3. Organizing a protest infront of Press Club??? Has anyone even visited press club lately?? there’s a protest going there EVERYDAY against something or the other… the last two times i was there, once it was ‘fishermen rights’ and the other was ‘harrasment against sunnis’!! Has anyone ever heard of them in mainstream media ?? my answer.. NO! Think of better ways to get that attention.. take a hint from ‘Dont Block the Blog’ group…

Anyways, that was it… Take care all

  22. Adnan Siddiqi (unregistered) on May 7th, 2006 @ 10:13 pm

yea since my office is near to Press club,i see such protests daily, one of them was arranged by lady doctors who were displaying banners like

Hamaray 8 mahinoun ka hisaab do

which forced many pervet minds to think something wicked. In real it was all about Salary only *grin*

    I want a Merc: Soomro

    By Zulfiqar Ghuman

ISLAMABAD: Senate Chairman Muhammadmian Soomro will buy a luxury Mercedes-Benz car from taxpayers’ money to mirror National Assembly Speaker Chaudhry Amir Hussain (who got one last year), sources told Daily Times.

Sources said that Soomro on Tuesday sought a verbal approval from the Senate’s finance committee for the vehicle’s purchase. “The Senate chairman wanted to take committee members into confidence before submitting a formal proposal in this regard, but the issue could not be discussed due to time constraints,” they added.

Senate Secretary Raja Muhammad Amin launched the proposal in the committee meeting, saying that a Mercedes-Benz car was “required” for protocol. “The assembly purchased a Mercedes for the speaker last year and now the chairman needs one,” the secretary was quoted as saying. The vehicle for the NA speaker cost the national exchequer around Rs 11 million last year and drew a lot of criticism from within and outside the parliament.

Meanwhile, a press release issued by the Senate Secretariat after the meeting said the committee unanimously approved the miscellaneous expenditures incurred to the secretariat. The committee also approved the budget estimates for the year 2006-07, the press release added.

The Senate chairman in his opening remarks lauded the performance of the committee. He called upon the committee members to opt for austerity measures while spending the public money. Besides the Senate chairman, the meeting was attended by Senators Muhammad Ali Durrani, Mrs Razina Alam Khan, Ahmed Ali, Muhammad Ishaq Dar, Prof Khurshid Ahmed and Mrs Rukhasna Zubairi.

You cannot get a better joke than this:

“. He called upon the committee members to opt for austerity measures while spending the public money. ”

It’s the joke of the year. He is plundering the nation and asking others to take austerity measures. GOD! His English has gone nuts, as he needs to be reminded what does this word means in the dictionary.

And shame on all the others there in the meeting for approving him. They include:-

“Senators Muhammad Ali Durrani, Mrs Razina Alam Khan, Ahmed Ali, Muhammad Ishaq Dar, Prof Khurshid Ahmed and Mrs Rukhasna Zubairi.”

    @Adnan :

Dude what you think. Should we email Huma and Ramla or what ?
