Hair Emergency – Break Glass

A new set of teaser billboards have again swamped Karachi, loudly proclaiming (I apologize for not have taken a picture)

IN CASE OF HAIR EMERGENCY
BREAK GLASS

How the heck am I going to climb 30 feet up onto the billboard to break the sheet of metal? I fail to understand its significance. Is this an ad for a new Laser Clinic or a SunSilk ad? Any guesses? I also would like to know the name of the marketing agency who came up with this brilliant (pun intended) concept.

I would be the first to appreciate a good teaser campaign but sadly it makes little sense? Or maybe this is a hint for the “Return of the Shariff’s” – I let you speculate……

Crazy Radio Ad…

This ad keeps popping up on radio and doesnt quite make sense to me:

Son: Dad Dad, you must get me a citibank visa card.
Father: And why do you need a citibank visa card my son?
Son: Because I could win a BMW 3 series, but I have to apply for a citinbank credit card!
Father: (softly, BMW 3 Series?) Oh no….you cant have a citibank credit card.
Son: What? Im asking mum.
Father: (dials number) Hello? Yes, Id like to apply for a citibank credit card…

Heres the issue with this ad:
If you dont earn OR if you dont have a substantial wealth in your own pocket, you cant get your own credit card!!! Its simply against policy!!

The son could get a card, but that too would be a supplementary card since he is (quite obviosly from this ad) a dependant!

Just what exactly is citibank trying to sell here?

Another teaser

On ho gaya hay… what’s that supposed to mean?

Corporate Cab

Image%28527%29.jpg

We have all seen people showing their loyalty to their educational institutions by attaching stickers at the back of their cars. NEDians, SMCians etc etc…

This sticker seems quite unique. It referrs to a corporate entity, is pasted behind a Taxi. What does this say about the taxi driver and the institution???

Empty promises

I read this and it doesn’t give me any hope, or joy. I just say meh, another empty promise. We’ll see when that happens. Why do politicians even say these things when they never have been able to deliver it? Why do they have to take credit for everything? Why can’t they just do something and let the people feel the change? They make all the fuss about things that they plan to do and end up not being able to achieve it, and then they blame it on others. Stupid politicians, think the people are too stupid to figure out their games.

Ads we hate…..

http://karachi.metblogs.com/images/2006/05/Image%28521%29-thumb.jpg

Well, this ad in particular doesnt make sense to me. I think the best Pakola ad was the one with a straight line showing a pulse from an ECG unit, and all it said was “dil bola, Pakola”. Short, sweet, simple and VERY powerful.

This one and another with a tattoo showing female are all about “attitude”, if thats the right word to say here, but thats execatly what i DONT like about them!

Awareness campaign

Picture%285%29.jpg
Although I appreciate the awareness campaign that the traffic police has started, the way they executed it has been a major turn off. For starters, their banners are highly unprofessional. The taglines are not convincing at all. For example, one of the banners say something like this, “Is it bombed? No it’s traffic.” Wtf? There is no way I am going to get my car fixed after reading that had I been facing smoke porblems with my car. Incorrect use of punctuations gives an impression that a 4th grader has designed these banners. Now I know where all that money collected from traffic tickets (yes, I have payed almost Rs. 1000 so far) is being wasted.

Pre-Paid Credit for Less!

http://karachi.metblogs.com/images/2006/05/low-cost-credit-thumb.jpg

Just saw this scribbling on a wall last night at Bahadurabad, which reminded me of another shop that once existed and sold mobile credit for less than the face value of the card.

This particular place is opposite Roll Corner in Bahadurabad (which is in a lane opposite Tooso).

If anyone else knows of anyother place…feel free to share with us…

A-0001

Ok, I know the picture is REALLY unclear, but the number plate says: A-0001.
Quite a find, don’t you think? :)
