Traffic jam at PIDC

There is severe traffic congestion at PIDC intersection right now. A couple of my co-workers have come back to office since they couldn’t go much far. Now we are waiting for roads to clear up so that we can go home. Another friend of mine called me and told me that Shahrah-e-Faisal is also blocked. So basically you can’t get anywhere.

I am sorry but what does Pathan Bhais being at press club have to do with traffic jams at PIDC and Shahrah-e-Faisal? Also why is it so bad any specific reason? Why can’t you just take Mai Kolachi and go through clifton and the baloch colony bypass?

The only time I have ever considered going back due to a traffic jam was in August 2003 when we had those terrible rains. Even then I made it home in and hour and a half.

The jam is the cause of a protest against the banning of rickshaws.

Imtiaz my offfice is infront of press club and there were thousands of pathans who had block all major routes and there was no way to get out of that.routes like metropole,MA Jinnah ,Tibet center, lasbela were blocked and and they were protesting against banning of rickshaws.for Mai kolachi you would have to go IIC first and as I said ,all roads around press club were blocked. There were several rickshaws around press club listening speech in Pashto.

banning of rickshaws??? They should just impose some sort of enviornmental ristrictions requiring them to put in silencers and something to stop emmissions.

I would actually support banning rickshaws but not rght now, a little too early.

Well you just can’t ban something out of nowhere. How these Rickshaw drivers are going to earn their living? I think there should be a timeline for such bans and one should have a option to exchange it with Auto rickshaw or a mini Taxi in simple installments. We don’t need more unemployed people, as we already have too many in Karachi.

CDGK has slap on the head fools sitting in the helm of the affairs. They sometimes lack so much common sense that you just feel like slapping your head at what they do. Sometimes I wonder if its really that hard for them to put 2 and 2 together. Heres a list of their recent blunders that I am coming across:
    – closing shops at 8pm. HOW FU**ING RIDICULOUS! We have a different culture here than north america. Maybe 10 pm would be good, but people normally are on jobs during the day and like to socialize in malls at night.
    – digging up roads without proper diversions. Thankfully this nuisance is becoming lesser because so many people shouted out about it that the govt took notice.
    – now, BANNING RICKSHAWS all of a sudden!!! HOW FOOLISH! what have the poor rickshaw owners done to be deprived of their livelihood within a day??? Mariam is right! there should have put a timeline for this and given an option for the old rickshaw owners to buy ALIF or whatever new thing at easy installments first beforehand.

2 strokes rickshaws are already banned in other part of pakistan only karachi was left.I support banning but it shouldnt be all of a sudden. They have given 6 months time to *fix* this issue. They mean the govt. The cruel part is that prices of rickshaw is 200% more than current type of rickshaws and its not fair at all when same rickshaws were distributed in half of price in other part of Pakistan.

All smkoe polluting Rickshaws, buses and mini-buses, they MUST ALL BE BANNED. Lets not stop the govt!

Remember Rickshaw/taxi owners are not poor, Rich Pathans owns them but they are driven by Poor Pathans. Its the Rich Pathans who DONT want to change!!! :(

And lets not also forget to put silencer in these 3-wheelers.

I am all for the silencers and getting the public transport vehicles fixed. The govt should not back down, but you cannot ban rickshaws, they are atleast affordable.

P.S. has any one seen the new mini taxis? they are the small cng (i think) rickshaw type thing. The same small vehicles that OCS is using for deliveries.
