Cinema Experience

Last night I was out to see the premiere of MI3 in Pakistan at Capri Cinema. It had been ages since I had been at a cinema (or even watched a movie) and after last night’s experience, I truly wish all cinema experiences are the same way. The whole cinema was pleasantly well lit and was very clean for a change.

Whats more, the audience was very well behaved and silent throughout the movie. No noises, no weird sounds, no comments. Of course, i understand this was a premiere and was by invitation only, but how wonderful would it be if the cinema going audinece was generally well behaved.

My brother went to see The Chronicles of Narnia just last week and reported crowd madness. I wonder why the go to the cinema in the first place if they just want to make noise and not watch the movie…

Back to the event. It was a reasonably star studded event with several people from the fashion and entetainment industry and quite a few from the financial sector too.

The movie was good, but was it just a slip or is it really not at all windy when Tom Cruise is at the top of a building thats definitely over 80 storeys high. There were other slip ups too, and the “mission” was now less about the mission itself, it was more emotional. It was the rescue of Ethan Hunt’s wife and the end of the movie seemed a bit too rushed up. Lawrence Fishburne has always been a great actor to watch and his role in this movie was great, though i felt the charachter was slightly mixed.

Anyhow, now im kinda sliding back into the movie watching mood so if any readers have any recommendations to share, please do.

Couple of days back, I took my family to watch Taj Mahal at Cineplex. It was my first visit there as normally I enjoy movies at home with my 7.1 channel monster.

It was a wonderful time spending activity with family. The environment, seating, etc was good but the sound system was highly pathetic. They SHOULD upgrade the system..

Movie: Now the movie was ok but the outfits, sets were pretty impressive. They have spent a lot of money on those things.

Snacks: OMG, they charge PKR 60/- each for a bag of popcorn and a soft drink. This is what I hated the most. I spent around 900+ bucks on this stuff :(

One interesting incident: My cousin was tired so he did not come and his seat was empty. The ticket guy came to me five mins after the movie was started and said “Sir seat bikwaa doon”. I said “why not”. Thats it! In no time, he was with two guys but the seat was one (corner), he brought a chair from outside so easily he created a room for two guys. During the interval, I asked him to give me my money. He said “Sir abhi day raha hoon”. Then came the shock of my life, he brought another chair and took the guys somewhere else :) That was hilarious..

The only came to my mind was no matter what you do, where you go in Pakistan, there is no way you can avoid this kind of bullshit! If I wanted I would have created a bad scene for the guy but for what???

Overall it was a good experience if I don’t think more about the ticket guy :)

i went to see the movie Jinnah looooooooong time back with my school. we had the entire cinema booked so there was obviously no case of hooliganism. but i really was in for a shock coz i had expected the place to reek of filthy smells, be dirty and paan stained etc etc. i dnt remember which cinema it was but whichever one, it was in sharp contrast to my expectations. neat and clean and even the AC was working perfectly fine. it was a nice experience overall.

I visited Ciniplex a few days ago with a couple of friends to watch The Chronicles of Narnia. I want to highlight that the prices of snacks there are outrageous. Rs.60 for a 330 ml. of a drink. The popcorn should have a veriety of sizes. The bag is too big and it gets cold too quickly. The quality of the movie and air-conditioning was good, but they shouldn’t expect a fullhouse unless they do something about those snack prices

We used to regularly go and see movies in Nishat and Capri. Not so much now because of my son. But we always enjoyed it. Except for ofcourse the hooting and whistling. But when the movies are really good the people usually settle down. The thing I hate most are the translators. The guy sitting in front or back of you translating (incorrectly) all the english dialogues for his lady friend. Then the fastforwarder , the guy who has seen the movie a few times and insists on telling everyone what is going to happen next. But all in all I miss going to the movies and then having a late dinner.
