Info: Comments being eaten up?

A lot of people here have complained that some of their comments specifically have been “deleted”, “moderated” or otherwise left unpublished. You know who you guys are, so i wont take any names.

Let me just take this opportunity to explain why this happens. Contrary to popular(?) belief, the authors here at KMB are not control freaks or sadists who just love to delete comments whenever they fancy. It is due to a plugin installed into the system called SpamLookup, which checks each comment posted, and makes up a score based on its various rules. If the score goes into negative, the comment is held for moderation.

Negative scores may be generated for excessive links in a comment, use of derrogatory (or other specified) keywords and other such activities.

More informaiton can be found on these two links

When a comment is held for approval, the respective post-owner gets an email notifying them of a comment being held for moderation. There are just times, when such emails are either not received by our mail systems, or just flagged as junk (as happened to me several times) so we never get them. The post-owner then has to go and manually publish the comment.

This mechanism, obviously, takes a little time. So please be patient. Like i said, the authors at KMB are not interested in eating up any comments of our readers, nor do we harbor any grudge or ill-will towards any of you. It is, afterall, for you all that we write this blog.

I hope this clears up a lot of confusions over here.

Thanks for the clarification; thats what Sean Bonner told me.

I was just wondering why don’t KMB authors follow the following metblog rule, which can be found under the “RULES FOR BULLETIN BOARDS AND CHATROOMS” section @ ? reserves the right to delete, move, or edit messages that it, in its sole discretion, deems abusive, defamatory, obscene, in violation of copyright or trademark laws, or otherwise unacceptable.

I have seen many messages on KMB which violate these rules! It would be nice if authors could take some time and delete (or atleast edit) those messages. (I know you guys have done some filtering in the past but i think more needs to be done.) That would help us make KMB a “PG” or “G” rated web site for everyone to browse (instead of its current rating “R”!)

Mansoor, by the way, congratulations on being in the list of top 10 authors on metblog! You deserve that.

On a side note, I hope other KMB authors would become more interactive (not in terms of posting new threads, rather in terms of collaboration) on this forum.

manny: thanks. On a more personal note, i have this thing on free speech, and let “most” people go on saying whtevers on their mind, even if i agree with them or not, or even if their language is a bit abusive or not. Language (both written and spoken) are a form of expression, and whoever is using it, uses it to express something they are feeling. Who am i to judge them.. so i let them speak their mind. That is why, on my posts, you will usually not find me messing with them.
