Waste disposal trucks: more bane than boon

I had the misfortune of being stuck behind a waste disposal truck for a kilometer, and, in that time, a few rotten onions, half-filled plastic bags, disposable bottles, and an arm-load of dust bounced right off my car. The truck driver, of course, was perfectly aware of the foul cargo he was depositing on the streets of Karachi, but continued to speed along. Motorcyclists, on the other hand, were darting off to the sides of the road.

The obvious problem was that the giant bin on the truck was overflowing. That’s a function of the fact that garbage piles up more quickly than the city government is able to dispose of. But there’s a simpler solution: fit the bins with covers or throw a canvas on top when moving them. A small expense that would provide much relief for motorists.

    Well Said!!

Speaking of garbage, is there any designated dumping site in Karachi or they are still throwing it in the sea.

i hear a lot about the solid waste management thing being on the mind of city nazim, when he came to shanghai , he talked non-stop about it, i hope with the sharing the expertise of shanghai-city govt, they will make some arrangement for the efficient disposal of waste.
Its refreshing to see some people taking ownership of city and actually doing work. Thumbs up to local govt. system. Both Naimutullah Khan and now Mustafa Kamal are doing well, at least sitting in a foreign land, this is the impression I get from online papers. i just hope at city level the govt system shall be over and above the party politics.
what do you people think ?
