Car-achi #10

When most people are going for sleeker, smarter and newer cars, some still prefer old style luxury and class! Thats what this vintage Jaguar is all about. A 1987 JAGUAR Sovereign V12 TWR!

Interestingly.. i wonder what sort of mileage this car would give!? This is the closest description i could find over the net. It has a 5.3 L engine~!! now thats a gas guzzler!

    Mine is a 5.0 Litre Merc 126
that gives approx 2.5 km/litre and its EFI
i believe if you drive carefully with a lighter foot on the peddle this can probably go upto 4 – 5 km/litre but thats the best..

I’d hate to drive that car in Karachi. It’s a monster to turn or park. Plus it has all sorts of little electronic and other gadgets that can’t be easily replaced out here.

Thats my regular every day car..
    its a 126 – 500SEL
highest speed i’ve done on it is 220km/h on the mai kolachi road.. since that day its been giving my trouble =D
most of the parts of merc are available in local market.. ofcourse very expensive.. others are available on request on 3 days notice max from dubai..
its big… i can put up a bird eye view picture to compare the size.. but its fun to drive..
    Ask Anathema =D

hmm.. wht r the chances i get 2 test drive it?? :D

Test drive can be arranged, gimme a couple of days and make sure you remind me..
maybe one of the sundays you can do that =D
    Cheers !

Great! send the pics, they’ll be part 11 of this series :D

Holy!!! (at fuel costs) and here i thought spending 150 a day of gas was putting in a lot!!!

yep. that blue baby is one sleek beauty. my jaw dropped the first time i saw it.
she’s big. and looks like a headache to drive but i think if u know how to handle it, u ca.
as for fuel consumption: it really varies on maintenance.
erm. zaman’s baby here is on petrol and really dont ask how much the fuel consumption is. it has a90 litre tank and.. we dont know where it all goes. did he mention that’s one of his two mercs? the second being a 124 shape e 220 petrol.
but consumption wise she’s doing brilliantly for her shape. my pajero of 199x with 75000 meter run 2.8l diesel would give me 3.5km/l

additionally, i think more than fuel economy (if any) the bigger issue is finding a trustworthy mechanic who knows how to deal with these hi fi mammoth vehicles.

unless u know one, its just not possible to own such a vehicle.

wow! we’ve got some pretty big car owners here. LoL!

anathema: i plan 2 find that out for myself in the pretty near future (abt handling)

you know, you guys made me really happy about owning a mehran! I get (sometimes) about 15 to 17 km/l on it and usually around 12 with the AC on (on petrol). On gas, its 15 to 17 with AC and around 19 to 21 without!

damn! now that i’ve mentioned it here… im pretty sure its gonna break down in the coming week and i’ll be spending time at the mechanic!! :(

i have this curse of stuff breaking down as soon as i say anything nice about it! aargghh!!!

anyway, i think we should have a post on fuel economies for cars we own… just as a reference… maybe tomorrow…

    Japenese Alto:
someone i know has imported a japenese alto 1000cc and im driving it for last 2 – 3 days.. fuel economy is just amazing.. it fills up in Rs. 1500 and it gave me 600 kms in that even though i peddle it down completely and A/c is on throughout..
it has a Airbags, ABS brakes, i am 100 percent sure individual suspension (road grip and handling is out of this world) and has an amazing pick up..
i am soooooo impressed with what japenese are doing with small tiny cars..
btw: i am sure it can fit in my car’s trunk =D hehehe

OMG! now dats economy!! its almost the same as gas for some cars!

i wonder, how will it run on gas though ;)
