One of our readers, Tahira, points out, and very rightly so, that Dominoes Pizza, which opened to much fanfare back in Sep 2004 now appears to be sleeping. I can confirm this news with the fact that their delivery motorcycles have reduced quite a bit, and the pizza chain (once) famous for home deliveries only, now has a seating area at their store. Although, as far as pizza goes, im pretty much a fan of its neighbour’s crust filled pizza, dominoes should be alive to competition so that we as consumers can benefit.

Tahira writes….

Once upon a time if you peoples remember in year 2004 september a multinational pizza company opened its first branch in clifton near damascus and the start was very good you can say a jump start but what happen after the start ? there legs are gone why they are crawling now ?

after the first branch of d.p lots more companies arrived and opened very good stores in clifton area but dominos is still breathing with one branch? yes once we heared the news that Domino’s is openining its another branch in Gulshan behind the stadium in Shazz super store but still we are waiting for that?

Domino’s team please wake up and forget your Pakistan’s biggest food court idea in Shazz with Domino’s and simply open more branches inside and outside the cities.

One more thing: we saw few leaflets inside the domino’s pouches when we order a pizza what is this ? is domino’s the sub iteam of crawling chicken franchise ?

Come on you pplz is this the way of promoting your product or you are damaging your name ?

So much for international chains being better!

Mansoor, really there is no need to create so many posts every day; specially one as incoherent and inane as this one. I am really not sure what you or Tahira are trying to say.

original-anon: what im trying to say is why do *we* get such sloppy service while the dominoes brand worldwide provides world-class service. That… is the gist of it.

As for creating so many posts per day… i have to spend mytime *somewhere* :p

    Mansoor,
I used to work in the same group of companies which also holds MCR, the franchisee of PIZZA HUT in Pakistan.

The market of Pizza hut is soo deeply established and the quality is so much recognized that any other brand finds it difficult to penetrate the Pakistani market. Fro isnatnce anyone even rememeber PIZZA EXPRESS ??(which is quite a decent upscale Pizza chain elsewhere in the world)

You can realize the situation from the fact that MCR has twice been awarded the best franchisee of Pizza hut all over the WORLD, for consecutive years in 2003 and 2002 by YUM Brands, the owner of Pizza hut, KFC and TACO BELL.

I know pizza hut has faultered many times with their service and quality standards, but still they are quite unshakable.

Dominoes tried filthy marketing tactics but still nobody is going to them. We once got their discount coupons and when we tried to use them, we were told that the coupons were for a certain area only – this information was not conveyed at the time of sale.

I personally like Pizza Next, it sure gives a kick to Pizza Hut’s butt.

Dominoes ws not my family’s fav in Khi..v being diehard Pizza-hutters.Even here in CA, v prefer Round Table or other Pizza places. Even PapJohn’s fares way better than Dominoes here. Cant blv someone actually misses it :S

Mansoor, well, so writing on this blog keeps you off the streets :)
But really, say what you mean clearly. In this post if you are complaining about poor service, then write about that rather than about legs and crawling. Also, proper punctuation would help get your point accross a lot easier.
Do once again consider quality over quantity. Some of your posts would be much better directed to your personal blog rather than a metro blog.

Mansoor…I think its the difference of culture. In USA..Pizza is like daal-roti where as in Pakistan its a special treat. Pizza hut suits Pakistan more because its a pizza restaurant not a delivery outlet. Dominos coupons strategy can easily beat PIZZA HUT if executed properly.

pizza hut has measly pie sizes in PK … atleast that is what i realized when i was visiting in dec. dominoes rules in nyc since they do have a lot of kick a** deals and the sizes are just plain huge. the veggie delight/feast is just too good :D anyway, the latest marketing gimmick that i found out about today and tried out as well was the thing about warm, chunky brownies with some dip as well that comes free with a regular price large pizza… grt value.. maybe all that the ppl at dominoes khi could do would be to bring in some carefully planned out locality based marketing targeting on the purchase patterns for ppl in that area.
