“yaar yeh sarak to rehlat farma gaee hai”

the situation outside is bad, people. and thats bad with a capital B. not to mention the A and D. after moving forward by around 6 metres in two hours on i i chundrigar road, i’m back in the office camping out until the generator throws in the towel.

geo updates mention looong traffic jams with which i wholly concur. outside i heard repeatedly that five people got eloctrocuted near mcb tower but i’m not sure if thats true. its highly possible anyway.

whats the situation around the rest of karachi? and has kesc been as efficient as usual?

It rained very heavily in Clifton for about 2 hrs (5~7 pm). It is totally gone now (9pm). What’s it like in the other parts of Karachi?

Situation here at Shahra-e-Faisal is not different.
I am also stuck in the office as one of the worst traffic jams is infront of me.

Lets camp in the office for today. :)

I’ve come after a 5 hour return trip from Tariq Road to DHA. Left at 5 got home at 10. I drove towards Shaheed e Millat – mistake no. 1 , I hear people got through easily on Sh-e-Quaideen and FTC / Korangi Road. KBW road was so badly flooded, then B’abad intersection saw cars upto their headlights in water, it wasn’t that bad from there on except there was a stream flowing towards Naheed from the opposite road. I realized that the downhill road opp hill park is jam packed so I hit the service lane and through Amir Khusro road reached M.A. Society there, it was literally as if the sea had crossed its shores, and cars had disappeared under the water and were floating around in the current. So I rerouted to Karsaz which was quite ok, since I was driving an SUV with a diesel engine, I was able to negotiate most of the places cars weren’t daring to go. The Karsaz / Sh-e-Faisal intersection was a mess but somehow managed to cross it and took a hi speed run towards the Baloch Colony overpass till got stuck at Awami Markaz for 4 hours. Later I discovered as I reached the Baloch overpass that due flooding at nursery, the traffic coming towards Karsaz from Metropole side had opted to enter the opposite track and had come face to face with the incoming traffic. As luck would have it, two ranger’s mobile vans were also part of the ‘ulta’ traffic and the great rangers blocked the traffic that was coming from the Karsaz side and let all the wrongside traffic turn on to the ramp of Baloch underpass till their own vans reached it, then they got in their vans and made their way to wherever they were going but caused a total traffic system collapse on main Sh-e-Faisal. The track coming from Hino Chowk was jammed for several kilometers before PAF chapter. There was no sign of traffic police or any other services anywhere. I am so tired I’ll upload the pics later.

I just came from Sunset Blvd, its TOTALLY submerged in water including the Korang Rd in defence, its really bad.

Also phase 2-ext, i would be surprised if any house there isnt submerged in water as my car was in water upto the headlights.

i managed to cross Darya-e-Qaideen today… took me the better part of two hours to get from the flyover till the Allah Wallah Signal.

I had to go pick something up… however, the way back towards clifton was pretty clear… most of the jam on sh-e-faisal was on the side going towards karsaz…

The next blockade i got was at Punjab colony… otherwise… the new roads from korangi road till mai kolachi pretty much held up and didnt flood as bad. even half the underpass was operational at 9 PM. dont know before that though…

I left my office(near press club) around 12:30AM and was in my home(block H Noth nazimabad) at 1:15Am.The roads were pretty Ok.The choesen route was Sharah-e-Faisal->Nursery-Allah wali choarangi->Jamshed Rd->PIB->Dakhana->Karimabad->Saifi College

Those whose are still at office and planning for North area can chose this route but i am hearing about another heavy rain sessions and mobile snatching is also happening so its better to stay at office rather creatin troubles for yourself and families.

Sind govt ann0unced holiday today in schools nd govt institutes.my office is also off today due to bad weather

What sort of people are you ?? 25 people died yesterday due to rain :-( . Shit , I just cant believe that …. TWENTY FIVE ….

I guess they all had to die becuase there is no worth of life in Karachi, tomorrow 2500 would die and no one would mourn ….

Are you people still enjoing those black clouds , I from day one did not want that rain.

Enjoy off day today … Have fun you losers.

nancy: “did not want that rain”? as if we have a choice!?

  16. Fakhr (unregistered) on August 18th, 2006 @ 12:22 pm

@ Nancy i feel for you, u seem pretty sensitive person, but that doesn’t mean we should stop enjoying life this is all part of life so cheer up…. we all are fed-up with the rain but to get sick worry is no solution either!! Have faith! Sun will shine, hopefully

  17. teebee (unregistered) on August 18th, 2006 @ 1:16 pm

    @ nancy
seems like its the first time you are hearing that sort of news.. its not like we dont care about people who die.. but what can you do.. can you stop the rain ?!?!.. ur being just foolish.. if you dont like those black clouds than stay inside.. and if you care about people out their in rain.. thn go and help them… dont criticize people who are enjoying the rain..
ek toh karachi walon ki samajh nahi ati.. pehlay barish ke liye duaain mangtay hain.. phir baarish na honay ke liye duaain mangtay hain.. kisi haal mai khush nahi hain..

  18. Kashif-x (unregistered) on August 18th, 2006 @ 2:24 pm

    @ Nancy,

we all feel sorry for those who died, but we cant stop living. Theres hardly any fun to have in Karachi.

    Your comment is really stupid
