Chundrigar road traffic
IIC is a difficult place for commuters at the best of times; at the worst of times it’s a nightmare. The new Sialkot airport, apparently being constructed with private money, got me thinking: why can’t Karachi’s millionaire row pony up the cash for doing something about the mess at their doorsteps?
There are plenty of options: carpeting the road; setting up a tram line along the length of the road; a hi-tech subway/overheard rail. Obviously the costs spiral upwards the more sophisticated the transport solution, but the desire to make a change seems to be missing altogether. I’m in the process of tracking down the various tycoons who have their offices on IIC and intend on putting the question to them directly, but I was wondering what Karachites in general make of it and especially what IIC workers think?

excellent thought, it should be put ahead to all those memon stock brokers (ala arif habib, aqeel dhedhi, jehangir siddiqui etc) making (rather minting) money on IIC!
Alternatively you could approach the top corporations operating out of IIC and get them to sponsor this. Great concept, please go ahead with it!
Cy: These are the same people who put trash outside their gates, throw water outside on their streets and generally tell the world to go2 hell lest it cause a slight dent in their pockets.
im all for this movement, yet… i cannot shake my skeptism and cynicism at this idea.
Imagine: If we could have an underground subway system below the IIC road, that would be wonderful, we can get rid of all the traffic that way.
One end of IIC road which is a polo ground can be converted into a parking lot.
I didnt understand why every other govt. construct roads again and again why dont they make the roads strong enough to survive in the rain, I was wondering what would have happened if we had snowfalls in Khi.
Now this new nazim he is putting patches on streets which will come out again as the roads are not strong enough, so all these responsible ppl are wasting public’s money.
In my opinion governments must be accountable to someone beside themselves.
GH: Although these memon party have lots of money but they are all kanjoos.
Is this an idea of Cowasjee :-) ??? I do not expect nor want any one to pay money for road construction. Don’t we pay taxes to govt. Its govt. duty to do all those stuff instead of buying F-16 with billions of $$. If we build road with our money then why do we need govt.
Okay Mansoor now come and defend Army and Mush.
Why dont cowasjee and co go ahead and build roads? instead of just criticizing all and sundry.
Why should cowasjee and co build roads. We do not pay taxes to them. We pay taxes to the govt. and they should build the roads.
Unless you are proposing that we pay taxes to cowasjee and co?!
Ah F-16:(.Last night i was reading that they will be under the supervision of US Army and they will chose pilots?
The city govt. has taken money from the companies on Chundrigar Roadfor the “Beautification / Updation” of the road… 30 Lakh per company I believe…. this was quite a while back, but so far nothing has happened. I know this for a fact as we had given this amount almost 6 months back.
As an IIChun user, I dread everytime I have to come on to the road. To come to work & to leave I use the back alleys… generally the masses dont really care of the condition, they would just spew forth a couple of profanities and move on, that is about all the effort our insensate masses would make. Every man for himself…
sounds like EXtortion…..
@OMAER are you really really sure about this…do you believe the federal gov and the ARMY knows about this.can you prove it..?
I am positive man… we did give that money..
How should I prove it…
