Have You Forgotten, October 8th 2005?

PakQuakeoneyearsmall.jpgOctober 8th 2005 at precisely 8:50:38 the northern areas of Pakistan shook with a massive earthquake measuring a massive 7.6 on the Richter scale. The sad news first reported on Karachi Metblog at precisely 11:09 AM by Umar – Quake in Northeast and after that it was literally a barrage of posts by the entire team, in an attempt to keep everyone informed of all the help that was needed in the disaster area up north, Karachi Metblog rounded off the month with having made a massive 323 posts only in October 2005.

The 2005 earthquake changed Pakistan tremendously, literally each and every Pakistani around the world rallied to raise aid for the suffering in the northern areas of Pakistan, the out pouring of love touched the nation to the core, many were astonished to see this tremendous show of unity combined with a generous heart to give, certainly made our nation proud. Its been one year and it seems like we have forgotten, we have walked away from the disaster as if to indicate it never happened. HAVE YOU FORGOTTEN, OCT 8th 2005.

In an effort to raise awareness we have orgnised a Blog Day for Sunday October 8th 2006. On this day all bloggers are requested to commemorate this day by making posts, to remember the fallen and maybe help rekindle hope for the suffering. Discuss and share how the earthquake impacted you, any touching story, any narration, anything just to remember that sad day when Pakistan lost over 100,000 people in the blink of an eye.

If you happen to be a simple reader then join in on the discussion by sharing your experience by either commenting here on this post or on Help-Pakistan, sharing any story or incident that may have touched you to the core about the 2005 Earthquake in Pakistan.

ASK YOURSELF, HAVE YOU FORGOTTEN?

I would go for The Citizens Foundation. We at Help-Pakistan donated all our collections to TCF, but now I would stress to donate directly to their Earthquake relief fund. I have heard they still need a lot more donations for their ongoing efforts.

    Jazakallah

Hey Mubashir and anyone else interested in donating their Zakat towards a charity to help the Earthquake victimes this Ramadan!

If you go to http://www.globalgiving.com/ramadan.html , you’ll be able to find a zakat calculator, which will help you figure out accurately how much you will have to donate this month. Also on Global Giving’s website if you browse the list of projects by region and go to Pakistan, you’ll find a list of projects you can donate to that are specifically targeted to help the earthquake victims. Global Giving is a credible website who do checks on all the projects they support. All the projects are also very interesting! So take a look.

    Peace, love, and pancakes.

Thanks for recommending GlobalGiving. As Jix mentioned, GlobalGiving is reaching out to the Muslim community with a Ramadan giving appeal. Also, there are a few earthquake-related projects. In fact, TCF (as one poster mentions) has posted a project on GlobalGiving! I hear there are more to be posted in the next few days. It is never to late to help!
