Aakhri Eftaari

As there was no sighting of the moon, there is some animosity towards the Roohat Hilal Committee. But look at the bright side people, you all got one full day to be closer to God than most of us will ever be for the next 11 months. The best part is that you all get to eat one more ‘Eftaari’. I am a big fan of Eftaari and I consider it to be a blessing from the Almighty that we get to eat such delicious food in the month of ramadan, fattening or not fattening I don’t care much about it. Eftaari is such a beautiful time of the day. The streets in Karachi are empty. There is this Loud Silence all over the city. Sitting at the Dastarkhwaan everyone is anxious to see what might be coming from the kitchen on a tray. TV is on, Amir Liaqat is talking to numerous islamic clerics and scholars. Ami is busy preparing eftaari. I just cannot wait to taste the mouth watering samosas, pakoras, roll, chaat aur najanay kiya kiya.
So since this is the last Eftaari for a year, I think you should make the most of it. I think the following is a small list that I could think of the things that you could do for Eftaari today.
Goto Shehnai on the Dalmia road for Eftaari, because I have heard so many Taareefein about the eftari there. Its located close to the millenium mall and is run by the Hanif Rajput. Costs around 375 – exact figure not known.
Not eat a grand eftari today either at a restaurant or at your home and donate the money that you would have spend on your Eftaari to your maid or someone that you know is poor and deserving. Kissi aisay banday ko jiss kay liye aap ki dee huee raqam Kisi EID say kam na ho
Stay at home and do as much ibadat as you can and listen to the best Islamic Lecture on a local tv channel (like QTv, GeoTv, PTV etc) from your favourite Scholar (I hope its not Amir Liaqat :D) which is not generally available through rest of the year.
Thank Allah for the great great month because you never know, this might very well be your last Ramadan, this might very well be your last ramadan with your loved ones or in our great city.
At the Dastarkhwaan, tell all your family members how much you love them and how much this occasion means to you. You might take this ‘Eftaari’ for granted, but Mark My Words it is indeed a great blessing to be eating with your loved ones the food that you desire, the quantity that you desire . . not many in this city are fortunate enough
May Allah give peace to all of us.
