Karachi losing its Cricket Love ?

Karachiites as I know are the most passionate about cricket than any other city that I know. Don’t want to say that others are not but it’s just that Karachi people, amid all their busy work and stuff do try to stay in touch with a match on TV, Radio & even mobile and internet now. A city where people don’t let Ramadan go without a night tournament this was strange. I remember people discussing a win or defeat right after the match for a whole week. Or may be it’s a “who cares” attitude that’s prevailing. This time an angry look appeared at anyone who heard the word “cricket” after that South Africa match.

Is Karachi loosing its love for cricket or it’s just that we don’t want to mention a defeat or it’s too old a story now, the Paki team letting matches go away. Though it’s few days now since we lost the match but so did India & Sri Lanka. One thing that I did not like about what Younis Khan said after the match that a win and defeat is a part of the game. What no one told him is that there is a difference between Defeat & Humiliation. Had we fought and lost no one would say much, like that match in which Pakistan was chasing 356 something and ended up few runs short.

I even know a friend who never even misses a Bangladesh vs. Kenya test match with ICC book by his side all the time. I don’t know if we have any other Cricket lovers left who follow it so closely. Just for a clarification. The said friend doesn’t bet. There are those who are Cricket lovers and there are those who are only Paki cricket lovers. So for the former the game is on & for later the game is off.

Also we do here some typical lines after every paki defeat match. Few , which are common include ” match fix tha, comfirm fix” & ” team mai itihaad nahi ” & ” bhai en khilarion se kaho ki churian pehen ker ghar per baith jaain” & ” Younis ko hataney ke liye ho raha hai sab” & ” Inzi hota toh jeet jatay etc” & ” Shoaib or Asif kee waja se hua” etc. Some optimistic come up with one or two ” koi baat nai , phir kabhi ” & ” ye toh match hai yar sirf koi jang toh nai” etc. A good conversation among friends regarding a defeat/win on Saturday night is a must among many friend groups also.

still there are some passionate who loves cricket. they follow not only the cricket match featuring Pakistan but any match between any 2 sides with zeal and enthusiasm. me and some of my friends are some of them. we read each and every article on cricinfo.com and discuess even the minute pre/post match details of every match. but still i miss those days when i used to be a part of a match. i miss the sound of a cover drive right out of the middle of the bat. now the only way to fulfill the appetite is to get involve virtually. Read, Watch and Discuss.

newb3e unless you are part italian or french forget football. There is nothing in it for england, they couldnt win the special olympics. :) Dont get all hot and bothered, i am just riling you up. Now you know how we feel when you say cricket and boring.
I am so glad MB said this out loud. I have been thinking the same thing. I too remember the days when you talked about the match much longer than you actually watched the match.
But in those days we had a lot to say! someday we’ll be back there again.
