Roads all dug up in the city, those that are not, make sure to let one have a roller coaster ride.
Another diversion observed at Hassan Square before SSGC’s building and it takes approximately 45 minutes to get out of the jam in peak hours.
Will this road construction take forever? Is there anything that can be done by us, the poor citizens?
Should we really start praying for Karachi to be the Capital city? (Having visited Isb and seen the not-at-all bumpy roads there)
Are we intending to move ahead or what??

Never have the monday blues hit so hard!!
After a week long vacation, almost everyone in my office is looking down and gloomy. Even im not feeling that hot to be back to the old grindstone. As the day passes by, the sounds slowly quieten down, as everybody is either engrossed in their work or enjoying the post lunch reverie.
Even though we’re in office today, i suspect actual work wont start till tomorrow, when brains will again kick into high gear and creativity starts soaring. Any recommendations on how to chase away the monday blues?

After having wandered in almost all good men boutiques, looking for sherwani for the groom to be, we ended up @ Noshay-Mian.
I remember being there on my brother’s wedding, three years back. At that time Noshay Mian had just started designing sherwanis and we did not find anything interesting.
This year, visiting all good designers starting from Ameer Adnan, Junaid Jamshed, Deepak Perwani, Aijazz Aslam & Abdul Samad, we decided to visit Naushay mian in the end. Though the expectations were not that high, yet a visit was must.
And to our surprise, the best sherwanis were found there. Some place where we all liked more than one sherwani.
A recommended place for dulhas(groom)-to-be, to visit.
Better prices, best designs. Satisfactory customer treatment and the sherwani gets ready in just a month’s time!
Not to forget matching Khusa(shoes) / turban along-with.

It seems our friendly representatives in the sky take whatever national culture there is, with them. While coming back from Islamabad, the PIA A310 i boarded had a decorated tail, promoting the city/culture of Peshawar, the gateway to the east.

It reminded me of the W11 paintings for which Pakistan has become such famous for. Oh.. and im back!!
*i stand corrected. Its W11, and not W21

Here are top 5 posts from last week. Quite interestingly, all of the posts are somehow related to Eid.
1. Chand Raat tonight? - Teeth Maestro wonders which day Eid would fall.
2. Shoe Crazy Pakistani Women - Part II - Teeth Maestro has yet another experience of witnessing ladies buying shoes and going through the drama and trauma of finding the perfect shoe while men being dragged along and going through the agony.
3. Functional ATM’s during Eid - Extiinct hopes for the ATMs to work during Eid days. The crowd takes on the entire banking system of Pakistan.
4. Wonderful Eid - Neoka shares his first Eid experience in Karachi.
5. Tele-Communication issues - Extiinct recalls how wireless networks were congested during previous Eid but this year things were much better. The comments section goes totally off topic and discusses the availability of high speed internet in Pakistan.

Wow ! The crime rate has really dropped as only 414 people were robbed during the past 4 days. That’s amazing! The news is so overwhelming that I have decided to get my self a 500 Rupee worth old and busted mobile phone, which is the only snatchproof solution.
P.s. I already have an old and busted Car (Suzuki Fx) which I drive so no tension on that end either.

When I was living away from Karachi, my first meal on trips back would invariably involve behari kebabs and puri parathas. I can’t get enough of the stuff and The News has an article on the origins of the dish in Karachi. Apparently behari kebab connoisseurs have one Juma Khan to thank for bringing the dish to Karachiites.
My favourite place for behari kebabs is Meerut Kebab House near Gurumandar. Where’s yours?

The news isn’t good at all & after India & Nepal It seems that dengue may stay here for some time & we request all our fellows to take extra & special care. This is also a reminder to all. We heard it in news and we read it in papers (and there are some cases that go unreported too) but frankly as it’s is said we don’t know it until we taste it. So after recovering from a severe fever myself for 5 days, the previous week, I have had some sad news at my end since yesterday morning. One of my relative, the only daughter ( with no more children possible due to medical reasons ) in her family passed away early morning & one of our neighbors passed away yesterday eve and I have just got the news that one of our close friends is also admitted in hospital. 2 close friends have already taken leave from their offices also, as precaution is better. Though this is all personal but I can understand how tough the time is for other Karachiites also. A week or so ago GEO had a news itemrelated to the health officials informing us that government hospitals are running out of resources & DAWN had a news item telling us that media is not being provided with stats, and we all know why.

I was surprised to find out that Clifton Town Police has a web presence.
I was even more surprised to find out that the website is actually not that bad.
It contains tons of useful information like emergency contact numbers, frequently asked questions, and safety tips.
But the most interesting feature was online reporting. You can even file a complaint against the police. I really don’t know if it really works or not (how about someone try it and let us know), but even the availability of such a feature is better than nothing at all. It’s a small step towards bridging the gap between government organizations and the people.
The only disappointment, however, was a link to a live webcam which lead to a blank page. It would have been super cool if the webcam was working.
It’s good to see e-government slowly fostering in Karachi, although there is a long way to go. Let’s hope other towns come up with something similar (and effective, not just for the sake of it).
