Speaking of coffee, a couple of days back I discovered a dead mosquito inside my mocha frescarto at Costa Coffee, Zamzama.I had actually drunk half of it before I saw it floating inside the glass. Being the hygiene freak I am , I was absolutely disgusted(I’d expect you to be too even if you aren’t a hygiene freak). Anyway, the management’s reaction and behaviour was so disappointing with one of them even going ‘yeh pakistan hai..yahan to aisa hota hai’that I really lost my cool. Even later on when I called them to register a complaint they seemed anything but apologetic. I am so disgusted by Costa that I will never set foot in it ever again even abroad

I hate starbucks coz their coffee sucks (maybe its the fact that i have had loads of coffee there). i dont know why we love to set trends or follow them. its like looking at the blind lead the blind. its irritating when everyone wants to keep up with joneses. it could be sheesha one day or a new hat or whatever. the point is that people just go to coffee places and all these trendy places coz its cool and not coz they love caffeine. what a bunch of losers!

I love coffee, and have been to most of the coffee shops in the town.
But that is from my very early years. It might be just that too many new ccoffe shops opened up, and yes it is true!

I think people are more health consious today. Rather than meeting over a lunch/dinner people prefer coffee with a light sandwich. Well dunno about others but i have nowadays often skipped dinner or lunch and prefered to do the same. But yes agree with LLAMA here, coffee houses do take heavy toll on the wallet. Come to think of it, it costs more to do coffee+sandwich than to have dinner at some places.

@Fairydust: the name might be “coffee house” but they serve a lot more than just coffee. They’re really full-fledged restaurants in disguise. And for those who dont want to sweat, they’re always the option of cold coffee, which is very popular.

@K.A: the key difference between then and now being the price? I’m sure those tea houses back in the 50s were economical even by that era’s standards. If i want to meet friends over a light, inexpensive snack in karachi, i’d rather have chat at chatkharey for Rs.30 than cold coffee at a coffee house for Rs.180.
