Pakhair Raghlay!

Image014.jpg

After a long time saw “this” type of poster painted on the walls of a cinema in Karachi.
With a large number of taxis and rickshaws parked outside and “niswar walas” sitting on the roadside it seemed to be a favorite hangout for our pathan brothers.
The people whose women are mostly seen in “topi wala burka”.

MMA: attention please :- )

Isn’t it called stereotyping?.put labels on everyone for the doings of few.

    No it’s called racism.

What is the purpose of this post? You do have a narrow vision girl.

do does the majority of our society, thats the point of the article isnt it?

  5. mansoor (unregistered) on December 13th, 2006 @ 11:00 pm

i agree with rukun. once the narrow point of view gets a little widened, maybe then we can have a little more respect for the different people here.

    raheel: lolzz!!!

by the way which cinema is it.
    Reno ?

  7. ash (unregistered) on December 13th, 2006 @ 11:20 pm

People will argue that this is WHY those women need to wear topi walla burka’s (which sadly just makes the men even more perverse), and i have to strongly disagree with the ethnic way you presented this argument.

I think its the one near jubilee market.

Unaiza, I dont get what this post is about :/

  9. Haseeb A (unregistered) on December 13th, 2006 @ 11:35 pm

Yes, Unaiza constantly scans the posters hence noticed “this” type of poster :p She also likes taking pictures of “these” types of posters

Oh, and I didn’t see any rickshaw walas and taxi walas in the photo. And maybe if they do stand, they are waiting for any potential customers who come out of the cinema. No reason to trash them on their “burka clad” wives.

Your type probably goes to the “angraizi” rated movies (even the un-rated ones are not better than these raghlay pashmalay!) and hence above any criticism :)

    Hey hey ..
leave uniaza alone.. i think she has a very very valid point.

If we believe that the torch bearer of democracy in this country (aka the mullahs) having a democratic elected govt in NWFP, which has passed the HASBA bill with great majority, are the true representatives of their people, then offcourse it is debatable that the very same people are nothing but plain hypocrats.

The ever soo tightened grip on not even letting a woman show her face has lead to such exhaustion of human needs (*cough* being sexually deprived *cough*)

Islam is only imitated as a way of life, it is never really understood, the same peoepl who are considered GHAYOOR MUSALMAAN are the ones growing poppy flowers, selling ammunitions, settling decades old scores on bullets, having more kids than they can afford, smuggling stuff, buying and selling women in the name of family traditions… and to some extent even committing homo-sexuality.

Why is our islam restricted to just topi, burqa, daarhi, masjid???

I am sure theres more to it.

I am certain of this; you scratch a mullah and inside you will find a sexually deprived animal.

And this is not just for pathaan bhai log…

  14. Raza (unregistered) on December 14th, 2006 @ 9:45 am

so according to unaiza’s theory every punjabi or lahori woman has association with Red area coz therez is a hera mandi in lahore and pujabi/lahori men are hypocrites who at one side go to hera mandi and on other hand keep their women away from world.

me sings abrar’s song “nach punjaban nach punjaban..” . didnt abrar mean that every punjaban is a dancer?

  15. ash (unregistered) on December 14th, 2006 @ 10:55 am

Its not about punjabi’s or pathans. We have our own little napier road too. There is sleaze in every ethnicity/race. The more restricted society is the more frustrated men get. Decency becomes less common and hypocracy takes it place. I realise that there was some rationale behind pointing fingers at pathans versus say russians. But please lets not make things that are not really ethnic about ethnicity.

  16. Haseeb A (unregistered) on December 14th, 2006 @ 9:38 pm

@VerySmart: Your nick portrays what you lack!! Why did the poppy growing end when the taliban came? Why was there peace? Why no rape? Why a sense of calm? Why no-murders? I am not defending the taliban. they too had their weak points, but am defending the “same” people, the mullas that you have stereotyped.

What did the “modern en-lighted” people of your type do when they came in power? Excessive torture? Killed thousand of innocent civilians? Started protecting heroine growers. Made Killers into governors? F&^%*D up democracy like no one else did? Started “Luxury Cruises” with nothing but alcohol and prostitutes on board for entertainment?

  17. shobz (unregistered) on December 15th, 2006 @ 1:13 am

i am quite offended by what u have written here. it feels like you just made a racial slur by stereotyping all pathans. i don’t understand why people target pathans only by looking at their shortcomings. why are we branded us people who only love niswar and sleaze? these people are poor working class people who don’t have access to proper entertainment like we do. your post makes people of other ethnic backgrounds look like saints. why couldn’t your post be more like oh its a place for men to watch sleazy movies. i am sick and tired of all the pathan jokes and stereotyping. sometimes i feel that all the ill feelings towards us justify what we feel about other ethnic communities at time because of the way they mock us for what we are. i wish we did not have to resort to that but then one doesn’t have a choice. no one is superior or inferior to anyone. i am tired of all the ignorant people out there. get a life.

  18. Formerly Yahya (unregistered) on December 15th, 2006 @ 1:33 am

This post is in bad taste. Rather than celebrate the diversity that various “elements” provide to the city and make it what it is, this post has just picked on one group, which is bound to create bitterness and rightly so.

  19. ash (unregistered) on December 15th, 2006 @ 6:26 am

Good. sounds like everyone is anti ethnic slurs which are unfair, mean and needless.

  20. ZJ (unregistered) on December 15th, 2006 @ 7:38 am

You guys need to ease up and take off the over-flowing political correctness cloak.

If one is to conduct a dispartial research its certainly most likely that most of these more than average cinema-goers are pathans and rickshaw/lorry drivers.

There is always some truth within the generalisation.

I also disagree with Shobz opinions too. Pathans, although Pakistani, an average non pathan pakistani probably doesn’t fully know or undertsand their culture and values. Its their fault, they live in such closed socities, can they blame others for making assumptions from out of what they see?

  21. Haseeb A (unregistered) on December 15th, 2006 @ 8:26 am

ummm. are comments getting deleted here….

  22. Raza (unregistered) on December 15th, 2006 @ 10:19 am

such movies re not pathan culture, get a life. in this way every punjabi person in this city follow the culture of heera mandi. pathans are far better than other groups in pakistan. today pathans are controlling most of Pakistani business just coz they dont hesitate to work even the lowest tasks. from garbage picking to country wide transportation, everything is in pathans hands, today is strike in karachi by pathans and see whole city is paralised. u ignorant who live in bills have no friggin idea at all.

  23. Raza (unregistered) on December 15th, 2006 @ 10:23 am

can someone write some guidelines for authors of this blog so that they dont comeup with such racial posts again. what if some pathans in pakistan or overseas visit the site, will he not feel offended? how would unaiza feel if someone offend her family background publicily?

PLS REMOVE THIS POST AS WE R NOT GIVING A POSITIVE MESSAGE ABOUT US IN OUTERWORLD. ALLOW SOME PATHAN AUTHOR TO COMMENT ABOUT PUNJABIS,BALOCHIS and PUNJABIS OTHERWISE DELETE THIS POST!

  24. ash (unregistered) on December 15th, 2006 @ 11:28 am

its suddenly become popular to bash political correctness. Pc is the reason you cant call a man a nig.er or a muslim a rag head etc. There is nothing wrong with that.
Ethnic slurs are wrong wrong wrong and hurtful in a stupid and backward way. There is no excuse for that , none.
We as pakistanis are punjabi pathan baluch sindi and muhajir, – all of us “backward” as far as much of the west is concerned. Is that fair? are we all child molesters and rapists and killers because some of us are?
If you arent then be careful about how you slander groups that you think you arent part of. This post says nothing about pathans and everything about the people who think they can type cast others.

I started reading this blog a few weeks ago and i really like it. The ppl on this site seem decent .

    BUT

After Reading ur comments above, i decided to go for mines.

Actually, the bottom lies in the fact the we dont follow islam , niether we try to understand it and niether we are ready to give our heads in understanding it from right ppl. ( i know this can lead to a big debate)

    >>I am certain of this; you scratch a mullah and >>inside you will find a sexually deprived animal

Every one has animal inside it other wise he/she is gona be called “Hijra”. To control ur haram wishes, this is wat islam teaches us. Obviously we need it for our wives/husbands

    >>Islam is only imitated as a way of life, it is >>never really understood, the same peoepl who >>are considered GHAYOOR MUSALMAAN are the ones >>growing poppy flowers, selling ammunitions, >>settling decades old scores on bullets, having >>more kids than they can afford, smuggling >>stuff, buying and selling women in the name of >>family traditions… and to some extent even >>committing homo-sexuality

Five fingers are not equal. There are a lof o Good men, if u want to see and admit but.

    >>The more restricted society is the more >>frustrated men get. Decency becomes less common >>and hypocracy takes it place.

This is not due to restricted society rather than open and unmodest society. When u see X rated movies ( or indian films or even pakistani dramas now) , do u think u gona stay in control?

And most of all, such kinds posts shud be stopped in future other wise, world know who we are.

    Regards
    Shahzad

Raza, this post was crap and apparently you have lost your mind over it.
I WAS ON YOUR SIDE STUPID!
How many million times did i say that we shouldnt make generalizations?
I supported political correctness, maybe you are confused because you dont know what pc is?
I said “this has nothing to do with pathans” as in “pathans” are not all like this .
Jesus yaar, no offence but i really wish you were NOT pathan, ab log “akhrot” kahain ge ya nahain?

actually i agree. Lets stop this and if you could delete those recent comments that would be great.

  31. Formerly Yahya (unregistered) on December 16th, 2006 @ 12:09 am

I mean the main post which is clearly racist and not helpful in maintaining the right atmosphere at KMB. The rest is just a reaction to it.

there is a better point to be made about NWFP and the future of religous politics
    http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/south_asia/6182395.stm
check out this link. Clearly much debate to be had there.

  33. ZJ (unregistered) on December 16th, 2006 @ 2:42 am

I dont know what you guys are talking about, by ‘deleting comments’, and ‘what sort of impressions would an outsider get from reading all this’, rubbish! and even if an outsider did read did read this, its hardly going to change their opinions when the media, left , right and center are bashing us and quitely rightlyly for our doings!

The best way forward is to accept the problems and move on from there, get out of your state of indenial! Our society has problems, and for a fact they are more prevalent in some factions than others. There is no need to blow your lids off, these are facts.

For instance, during the start of the Afghan war, on Iraqi forums, Iraqis were discussing an article from teh BBC, in which the US marines were giving their accounts of how dozens of Afghan men were rushing at them dressed in female clothing. There are variosu implications to this, which one should identify, and then go about resolving it, rather than cover up! the problem wont go away.

  34. ash (unregistered) on December 16th, 2006 @ 3:09 am

Zj like i said earlier this particular post is so unabashedly ethnist that it cant provoke genuine discussion. It can just offend and antagonize as we have seen. There are numerous valid points to be made but this post detracts from all of them

  35. shobz (unregistered) on December 16th, 2006 @ 5:02 pm

this post should not have been made in the first place. first of all pathans know what their culture is. it is always easy for others to point fingers at us and mock us for our shortcomings. we arent shameless and have a lot of respect for people of other ethnic backgrounds. however this does not mean we are superior to others. we are simply human beings living amongst a multi-ethnic society. no one is perfect and that means no ethnic community is holier than thou. its so easy to point the fingers at pathans because all the jokes are about them. these are the times i feel ashamed of pakistan. i wish there was more unity amongst us unlike the fake unity which we all pretend to show to the world through images in the media.
