All hurrahs gone, all cheers lost. Anger, frustration, disgust, hatred ..
all these words start coming to your mind. We read and see all these stories of
gruesome injustice happen right in front of us, and we do nothing. Can we do
something? First thing that comes to your mind, is why don’t somebody kill these
people. They deserve death or at least life imprisonment. Why so much apathy? I
just wanted to know how many of you actually want death to these people or the
hardest punishment possible.

    Gang rape victim seeks justice
    By our correspondent

KARACHI: In pursuance of justice, a 40-year-old gang rape victim from district Naushero Feroze, arrived at Karachi after seeking help of an NGO, Aurat Foundation.

Most of the perpetrators are arrested but she continues to receive threatening calls from the three men, who are still at large. In a press conference held by the victim and her family members on Wednesday at the press club, Shezadi Nagore disclosed that 44 days back she was sexually assaulted by a gang of five men while she was working in the fields in her village Mohammad Yousuf Nagore in Naushero Feroze.

“I was working in the fields with my husband and daughter when 12 armed men attacked us.” Five men held her husband and assaulted her in his presence. “They did not even spare my eight-year-old daughter,” she said. Her nephew, Abdul Razzak, further explained that the rapists claimed that the victim’s son had teased one of their daughters after which they decided to avenge by raping her.

“I don’t believe this is true and even if my son was involved in any such act, why did they choose to deprive me of my honour in this manner,” said the disturbed victim. Her son-in-law Arbab also said that the rapists had been involved in similar crimes in their village and they should be brought to justice.

The family has appealed to the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court to take suo moto action against the rapists.

Human Rights activist from Aurat Foundation, Anis Haroon, who was also present at the conference, added: “The government has been making strong claims about the Women’s Protection Bill, but they need to understand that more than protection, such vulnerable women want justice. Their safety can only be guaranteed when those responsible for ill-treatment are brought to book.”

Well for the question, what we can do. Frankly the only thing we can do is spread word. Because the evils are from within us and not outsiders. Make sure we discuss some social topics too when we meet. Make sure we can motivate people to do some practical work if such incident happens among people that we know personally so we have the social support. Make sure we educate morally our sons, daughters, sisters, brothers and friends mentally to not to be a part of such evils and to voice in their capacity when required. That’s the only thing we can do. Spreading the germ of humanity and social justice within us, everywhere. A social injustice of any kind may well be occurring in our family with someone at any time. Let’s do our homework now so we can have the work force then. I have made it my hobby to talk about such things among friends and making sure their minds are brushed up properly against any such thing, without forcing my will onto them. That’s my way of doing it. There are other ways too.

Just look at the matter at which this has happened. “A Music Cassette” ??. What this shows. That they people were morally corrupted to start with. And even if they had any argument they would have it resolved easily. But having such a culmination shows what I have told you. The moral darkness those filth head brains have in them. If they had the germs that i am talking about. They would not have gone to this limit. Remember, i am not talking about the education that we generally refer to. I am talking about what we call in Urdu ” Tarbiyat “. The moral training. That’s where we, mostly, the educated ones lack too. What to complain from the non educated ones.

    I will disagree Adnan,

They should be stoned to death in Nishtar Park.

So that no one will ever think about doing such heinous crime.

    1. “just wanted to know how many of you actually want death to these people or the hardest punishment possible. ”

    2. “They should be stoned to death in Nishtar Park. So that no one will ever think about doing such heinous crime.”.

    @ Sufi
Well, frankly this question only shows absolute desperation on your part. But honestly I won’t blame you for that too as well. It, like with many of us, has accumulated over the years, thanks mostly to our judicial corruption. But death alone is not the solution for all the evils. Yes it will be for this one but not for all such evils. With clumsy laws being made by Mushy and co. we have/ had seldom any hope of bringing change.

You cannot kill Dengue fever if you kill one mosquito. Can you?. So the point is to bring change in minds. And play your part in it. You will come across many people even within your family with this kind of mentality. Fight that first before doing anything on a bigger level. That’s how the change will come.

    @HAMEED :

Did the politicians become angles after Butto was hanged (for any reasons)?. Did we learn from 1971?.
Why do we wish something, which is for the time being at least impractical? Nothing of such will happen. This woman will have to sacrifice as others have done till now till the day we achieve what I have preciously mentioned. Open the eyes see the reality brothers. If required I will tell you a guys a story about a friend who brought change in his family fighting everyone. Because he had the germs in his body that have mentioned above.

I have a better suggestion. Supreme Court should set a precedent and order that private parts of Rapists, especially of young children, should be cut off.

This is the best punishment for these gutless paki men.

  8. Captain's Log (unregistered) on December 14th, 2006 @ 9:12 am

Why are you posting such things? First of all it is not in Karachi and then we have already discussed such issues.

We have made sex such a sacred thing that people think raping one would make one dishonour. I propose that we should make sex cheap and easily avilable so no one would take it seriously to dishonor some one else.

“chand roze aur meri jaan bus chandi hi roze” (Faiz)
its been 3 decades since then and the only thing thats changed is the cow. Govts can do a better job but ultimately, people, like adnan said have to understand themselves what is unacceptable and teach their own children that.
Lets see if the MMA or any political party will take heed. Just a note of slight hope – these things dont tend to happen in karachi. So maybe our sub culture sub politics sub govt. deserves some credit.
The politics of sex and dishonor do need to be heavily reevaluated, rape is never an act of passion – always one of violence. So there may be something to what the captain said, but its not sex that needs to be rampant – dishonor needs to be reserved for the violator not the violated.

from where i see it, this is more than sex. this is about revenge, stupidity, jihalat, egoes.. its just not sex. its making the husband feel miserable helpless for the rest of his life.

  11. kidal (unregistered) on December 14th, 2006 @ 10:01 am

Captain’s log gets the prize for the dumbest comment of the day – no, of the year.

Making sex cheap has many other repercussions. Besides, rape is not about sex as much as it’s about violence.

You really need to think before making such moronic comments

What are you talking about man. Wake up please. Given the fact that our judicail system is so corrupt if we accept your point & we came to know later on that the real story was different or wrong person has been punished are you going to bring back his private parts ?.

    CAPTAIN :
Place yourself as the woman’s brother & father. Do you still suggest the same ?. Will you still be suggesting the same if this happens with any woman in your family. Talk some sense.

  13. Bozz (unregistered) on December 14th, 2006 @ 11:34 am

Sufi : You got the first part right. On the second part you got it wrong, so very wrong.

You speak of the poor husband read man here. You do not mention the wife read the woman here. The one who got violated, abused, raped. Wake up please. Hell with the husband and his self pity. Think of the woman please.

As for MB : Normally it should be to the gallows for such people. What do you do if after being put to death they are found out to be innocent?

Think out of the box MB – we are talking of punishment after finding the person guilty.

  14. ash (unregistered) on December 14th, 2006 @ 11:39 am

bozz is right actually on both accounts. rape is comparatively easy to prove with DNA evidence. At worst it may be consensual sex and not rape but the punishment for that is death anyway – right?

MB: First of all if it’d happen to my family, I would not condemn the lady. Rape is just an accident I believe. I agree that in this case it with revenge but can not understand why people think that her family would feel bad about themselves whole life. If your mom/sister/wife gets some accident then would you feel bad about her or yourself ?? We have to change this mentality.

By the way, you got all wrong, I never said that this act was acceptable. I think Ash put in much better words that we should discourage the politics of honor and rape.

Any how I am out of this thread. No more comments from me. MB yah you’d win.

Bozz, of course it was extremely painful and torturous for the lady. I did not even want to talk about it because of the sensitive & obvious nature of the pain that she went through.

  19. Bozz (unregistered) on December 14th, 2006 @ 12:16 pm

SUFI : This is exactly, as you say, why we should ONLY talk of the women’s pain.

And this is exactly why we are where we are in terms of subjugation of women in our nation. Because people either do not talk of it or take it for granted.

    Quoting Captain:

“I propose that we should make sex cheap and easily avilable so no one would take it
seriously to dishonor some one else.”

Can I add, we should legalize killing of people so that no one would take it seriously
to dishonour or to take revnge.

I hope not many people will agree with
    captain’s ideologies.

I think all our readers would know that rape & sexual harrasment
are not uncommon in those parts of the world where sex is “cheap & easily available”.

As far as this particular case is concerned

I am sure it was not an ‘accident’

I am quoting cambridge dictionary for the precise
    meaning of the word accident.

    Accident: noun
Something which happens unexpectedly and unintentionally, and which often damages something or injures someone:

these bastards should have the crap tortured out of them and then be killed so that the earth they walk on can breath a sigh of relief and our women can walk safe.

  23. UZi (unregistered) on December 15th, 2006 @ 6:48 pm

I asked the woman what she thinks should be done to the men. Here’s what she said (translating Sindhi to English): “They should be hanged. I won’t be happy any other way — even if chains are tied around their necks and they’re dragged on the ground.”
