Increase in CNG prices?

Two days ago, i heard from some people that CNG prices were going to be raised from the 15th of Dec, from Rs. 33 to Rs. 35 per litre. I went out to get gas today and it was still at Rs. 33, and the pump people had no idea what i was talking about when i asked when are they increasing. Then i came across this article stating that the increase in CNG prices were not by the govt, but instead raised by the individual CNG dealers to ‘cover their costs’.

There were two points in that article which warrant further discussion,

1) “The consumer price of CNG cannot be legally increased as a cartel by the CNG licencees or their Associations” (According to an Oil and Gas Regulation Authority spokesman)
What is the Justification to raise CNG prices? and if they’re allowed to increase once, what’s there to stop them from increasing it again when they feel like it?

2) CNG industry was ganging up against Ogra’s decision to enforce security and safety standards that had led to closure of some stations in the recent past (Anonymous statement by ORGA member)
Have they forgotten the CNG pump which got blown up in DHA? How can u go against security and safety standards?? Arent they there to actually improve your service? Given the normal conditions of complacency we get into when not being monitored, i believe safety and security standards are a must!

The CNG price is only in northern part of country.

At Total, PSO, Shell & Private dispensers price is same old 33 / kg in Karachi. I got cylinder filled up this morning.

I pray that epidemic does not attack Karachi.
