Atif Aslam – Doorie

http://karachi.metblogs.com/archives/images/2006/12/Atif-thumb.JPGAtif Aslam is back. Album Doorie is out. What you think of his latest album. Which song you like. I have downloaded it from internet. Click here to download the entire album if you haven’t. As for the video the only one out is Doorie & that’s what you can see on TV as well these days. Over the internet it’s available at many websites. You can watch it on YOUTUBE here . Throughout the album the only negative thing you will notice is the monotonous Atif-Aslam that we know; especially the inclusion of previous album songs they made it looked like desperation to bring this album out rather any hard work. Otherwise the album doesn’t disappoint you. Looks like in series with the previous album. If you liked it then chance is you gonna like this one too.

Personal Review:

Starting with first song Doorie, you get an impression of nice techno/ trance embedded with sound variations and good buildup. The quickly becomes a steady composition. The next song is the same old Ehsaas, nothing much here. Hum Kis Galli Ja Rahe Hain is nice one, infact equal to first one with a rock touch. Kuch Iss Tarhan is a slow number with nice flute with different experimental sounds and ghazal effect, though it never sounds ghazal at all. O Re Piya is a good song with an Indian movie touch (I like the tabla). Good one. Mahi Ve Soniya is Punjabi touch song that goes well as you get into the rhythm with it. The lyrics specially have been well placed with the tunes here else they would sound miserable. The saxophone is used well too. The Qawali style Maula is a good attempt though. Could have improved a lot & if the pace was slowed down with powerful lyrics it could be one of the best. But unfortunately Atif lacking in traditional training music this would be real tough. Next Yaqeen is the same old good track.

Doorie (House Mix) is better than the original Doorie, but that’s for me. You do share your opinion. The trance touch suits so well to this one. Great work Atif. I wonder what if completely switches to trance side. All the songs after this one are remixes with nice compositions but the album I guess would be great in a concert than at home. One would be fed up with the monotonous tunes. All in all an album worth listening to. You sure will love it in a dance party or concert. Following is the list of songs available in album.

1) Doorie 2) Ehsaas (Old song from 1st album) 3) Hum Kis Galli Ja Rahe Hain 4) Kuch Iss Tarhan 5) O Re Piya 6) Mahi Ve (Old song from 1st album) 7) Mahi Ve Soniya 8) Maula 9) Yaqeen (Old song from 1st album) 10) Doorie (House Mix) 11) Kuch Is Tarhan (Euro Mix) 12) Mahi Ve Soniya (Soul Mix) 13) O Re Piya (Trance Mix) 14) Yaqeen (Club Mix) 15) Doorie (Energy Mix) 16) Mahi Ve (Eternal Mix) 17) Hum Kis Galli Ja Rahe Hain (Dance Mix) 18) Ehsaas (Freaky Mix).

    He has an excellent voice, but he is a poor musician/composer/artist. As an artist, he lacks character. The latest releases from both Atif & Jal has clearly shown who the winner is, I was always on Jal’s side and its evident that Gohar was ripped by this fellow. For this reason, I have never liked Atif Aslam. Though, excellent voice.

    As for this album, only Kuch Is Tarah & Maula are the only songs that I found worth listening to again. In fact I found Kuch Is Tarah very nice, though its not a Rock number. This album sounds like a desperate failed attempt by Atif. All those remixed numbers (Freaky Mix, Eternal Mix, Trance Mix) sound like they were just remixed in to fill the album space. And what is he now?? A dj? instead of a rock star.

    Good album although Atif needs to work hard to improve his voice which is very good already. He seems to use too much of computer in his work. There is no alternate for originality.

    MB, do you know it is stealing when you download songs from internet. How the hell on earth you could do that when you are always complaining of corruption in Pakistan. The truth is that we all are corrupt and we do it in our own capacity. Shame on you.

    I was like you few years ago and my hard drive was filled with so much junk but then I realized that it is stealing so I left it. I would rather pay 100 Rs to get a cd instead of stealing. I guess I did not leave downloading because of moral factor. I just realized that copy right is very very important factor for creativity and I know I work too hard and if I see any one using my company’s product w/o license , I would not be glad at all.

    I have not listened to his new album as it has not been launched in UK yet, & so no comments.

    On a different note (I know it is not relevant with the original post), just go through this list of Pakistani pop stars;

    Junoon,
    Vital Signs,
    Abrar,
    Jawwad,
    Najam Sheraz,Atif/Jal, Hadiqa Kiyani, Fakhir,F.alam

    Do you know what they have in common?

    None of them was from Karachi, originally.
    (though many of them latter moved to Karachi for better prospects).

    As a keen follower & passionate fan of Pakistani Pop, I have always considered Karachi as the hub of pop music industry in Pakistan. The history of Karachiites love with the pop music dates back to 70′s when M. Ali Shehki & Alamgir used to be the heart throbs (strangely enough, both of them from some where else). Then came Nazia & Zohaib from UK, followed by mushroom gowth of Pop bands in post music ’89 era (which was a famous stage show hosted by Nazia & Zohaib that changed the whole music scene in pakistan.)

    But don’t you think that if we compare musicians & pop singers from Karachi with the rest of the country, we are far behind.

    Apart from Strings, Sajjad Ali & Ali Haider I don’t think Karachi has given many great Musicians to Pakistan. Considering the popularity of Pop music in Karachi with the rest of the country, this is something strange. We should have given more good musicians to the country.

    Any clue for this disparity?

    My own impression is that the political instability & social anarchy which has targeted Karachi for more than two decades is probably the best explanation of the reason that why the youth of this city has not been able to perform well in fields like performing arts & music.

    “But don’t you think that if we compare musicians & pop singers from Karachi with the rest of the country, we are far behind.”

    Assuming Karachi has 1 crore population then even if there are 15 times more musicians from the rest of the country then that is quite OK.

    Karachi made these artists who they are….
    neither hollywood, nor bollywood, nor any other wood, is actually home to as many artists as they have created.

    I guess the credit that they all come to karachi in search of a career is enough for Karachi.

    @CAPTAIN’S LOG & Piracy freaks

    I don’t like piracy as well but as long as we the 3rd world country is not equal at par with rest of the world, i don’t see anything wrong in buying copied CD, books etc. By the way that link will expire too after few downloads & i knew it so i have put it there.

    Apart from that i shall be buying the CD (& that’s what I do) even that i have the full album on my pc now, just to show that I am against piracy & that’s what I usually do because i can pay that amount and because i want to give the artist the due credit.

    Buying the CD even that you have the album on PC does show one have credited the artist. And in fact it shows ones commitment towards promoting industry.

    We shall have a lengthy debate some later time on piracy, hopefully. But for now i would like to stick to the topic.

    @Captain’s LOG.
    Totally agree with you.Check his posts against the traffic pattern map issued by Karachi police for the match in which he says it is and addition to the “misery” of Karachites and then the other one where he is appreciating the ongoing proceedings of the match. I dont understand how a preplanned traffic pattern which is for the people, will bring misery to them.
    @MB
    Keeping in mind your previous blogs, you are good in “lengthy debates” either valid or invalid, everybody knows that, so dont use it as a shield to protect yourself against the crime you have done here by distributing illegal copies.And Dont come up with reasons to cover it.Just except it and be quite.

    He sings through his nose…if you get what I mean. Im surprised no one else here has noticed that. Also he produces that same old pop/commercial genre of music that most of the new “talent” indulges in. Sad, I actually thought the guy would give us something different. Same old same old.
    Also the remixed versions of all his songs suck. But thats just my opnion.

    MB, my dear old friend MB, I am totally with you on this one. We should all illegally download this guy’s album; buying it would just encourage him to produce more of his regrettable music. I say this after listening to at least one song from his prior album and a whole minute of the You Tube video you linked.
    Let me tell you, after listening to his nasal whining and his horrible accent,I have to get cleansed; luckily ‘Yoshimi battles the Pink Robot’ has surfaced and should go a long way towards erasing the bad taste in my mouth.

    just for the sake of argument, you know most hollywood stars are not from beverly hills right? :)
    No, but i would say that music as a cultural expression is tolerated/reverred much more in punjab than in any other province. Also I could be wrong but i think that urdu and english are more prevelant in rural punjab compared to rural sind which is possibly why those artists get more recognition.
    We are a city not a province, hope that explains things.

    I think the album sucks, he has a great voice and then has bad songs. The only songs that are great are already on the first album. Doorie was a good song, but basically you buy 1 song for the price of 1 album. I don’t like the remixes, his voice is purely for crying out of the heart, to feel the emotions, not to dance on them. These kind of albums are exactly why people download. Cuz all these fans have been waiting for just 1 good song and a bunch of fillers.

    I agree with Sufi. I personally am a big fan of Atif Aslam, but I always had doubts over the fact that he had also composed the songs alonside Goher Mumtaz for their first album. In Doorie Atif Aslam hasn’t composed even a single new track and that proves a point!!!

    Atif is a great singer, but taking credit for someone else’s work is absolutely wreched thing to do. The songs that Atif has lended to the bollywood moviea and now to a hollywood movie are actually Gohers work and not his own. The credit for Atif’s success goes to Goher as he is the man behind Aadat and Woh Lamhe. It was the good music that made Atif a big hit in India.

    It’s a sorry situation because I really like this guy, but what he has done is unacceptable. I hope Goher gets his share of success with the next album.

    I havr listened to the entire album and I personally feel it is quite a good one. “Kuch is Tarah” is especially nice. As for the comparisons with Jal, my opinion is that Atif’s doorie has an edge over the latest Jal Album. Though it must be admitted that Doorie has a bit of an aadat touch which is not a creative idea but then it is quite common for artists in India and Pakistan to repeat their hits, so nothing new or strange. Still, it is a very good album and one which is not a bad buy at all. The album’s pretty nice!

  48. Danish (unregistered) on January 4th, 2007 @ 4:20 am

    here is some real analysis…Atif rocked on his first album..despite the fact he stole songs or not what ever it is…its meaning less because the way he sings is just too good. His first album was amazing…even his singles after his album were good for example tere bin(in bas ek pal), Aas Paas (with som hadiqa girl) and there was a song he sang in his interview which I dont see in his new album..he said it was going to be a part of his 2nd album. If you are a real fan you would know..its goes like: Unhi Anjane mein Unhi Nadani mein..anyway his new album is not comparable to his old album the reason is that he got a little too confident and colaborating with indian musicians…there is a fine line b/w paki and indian music I can heara song and tell you who it’s by and which country (Paki or India)….Indian music is good but they are not good in rock andt and alternative kind of music at all..bottom line is Atif’s new songs from his new album sound no diffrent than one of the indian idol launching an album…they are alright…its a disappointment though..he was my hero…I am a lyricist myself and get my inspiraions from Atif..I could never have imagine his 2nd album will be a disaster like that.

    What’s up guys! I am a Sikh from California and thought I’d chime in about Atif’s music. I first heard Atif in Lahore at Noor Jehan’s house, (on Attaturk Rd.) His music blew my mind (Woh Lamhe, Aadat, Mahi Ve, Tehzeeb etc.) I think the first album was one of the most beautiful pieces of work i’d ever heard (sorry I’m ignorant about the Gauhar controversy discussed above). I bought the CD back to Cali, and have never taken it out of my car. It’s amazing to listen to whether you’re drunk or sober. His Punjabi is amazing, as too are his Urdu lyrics. The music, to me, represents the beauty, nonchalance, creativity and vibrant nature of Pakistan’s new generation. Keep up the good work and God Bless you guys!

    sameer main tumhe nahin janti aur na hi jana chathi ho .Maine yeh sab atif ke liye likha hai is se tumhe kya problem hai.i think tum meri life mai na hi ao to acha ho ga aur maine apne pyar mai kisi ko bhi bolne ka haq nahi diya apne parents ko bhi nahi to tum kaun hote ho.tum boy ho is liye mai tumse ziada baat nahi karna chathi aur pyar ke baare mai tum jaante kya ho.jab tumhe kisi se pyar ho ga tab baat karna.ok tum mere aur mere pyar ke baare main kuch mat kehna understand!

    @ faryal…

    Listen miss stupid faryal i don’t want to interfere on ur so called relation with atif i can only say its foolish act from a fool …this is a open forum and i can say whatever i want ….i can imagine your maturity level that u said earlier about your parents cannot do anything in ur life means u have no respect of ur parents…..and by the way what u know about love ….even ur so called love is nothing its a dreams …u live in a dream world ….

    Sameer…
    sorry and i don’t want to talk more with you.plzzzzzzzzzzzzzz tum kya jano ke respest kya hoti hai.mere kehne ka matlab tha ke mere parents mujh se itna pyar karte hai ke woh mere baare mai interfere nahin kerte aur agar woh atif ke baare main kuch kahe to main apne parents ko to kuch keh nahin sakti aur atif se pyar karna nahin chor sakti bas phir mar hi sakti ho kyuki maine apne parents aur atif main koi different nahin samjha aur na samajh sakti ho kyuki woh mere parents hai aur atif meri zindagi.Aur agar mujhse koi galti ho gayi ho to i am really sorry plz forgive me.

    Hi Faryal…..my sympathy for you….i also have a crush on Esha deol…since i saw her in white…we must join forces for a common goal…you know what we can do we make an NGO collect empty milk pack arrange a concert and…………………..

    iam totally against the laying down of land mines along the pak-afghan boarder….we cannot stop the american forces by this besides they have found a replacement to princess Diana….

    wow this is officially nuts :) i have never seen you guys on kmb before …this atif guy must be something else.
    Faryal sweetheart ainy nai sahih kaha hai, laila majnu wa ghairah siraf kahanioun main achay lagtain hain. Na tum us ko jaanti ho na woh tumhe. Aur us becharay kee bhee kuch respect karo. Woh siraf apnay gaanay bech raha hai apni zaat nahin.

  79. faryal (unregistered) on January 12th, 2007 @ 6:18 am

    i am sorry to all of you laiken mai atif se pyar kerna nahin chor sakti kyuki woh meri zindagi hai usey chorna meri mot hai aur agar ap chathe hai mai mar jao to mujhe wish kerde .Per main apne parents ki kasam kha ker keh rahi ho ke mai mar jao ge i will kill my self.per yeh sab baatein ap nahin samjhe ge kyuki maine sucha pyar kiya hai us atif se jis ko maine real life mai kabhi nahi deakha aur jis ke baare mai main kuch nahin jaanti .per ap sab is baaton ko bakwas samhjte hai to samajh ley per mera allah janta hai ke such kya hai.yeh baat suni hogi umeed per duniya kayim hai… Aur mujhe agar mera pyar na mila to yeh afsoos nahi hoga ke maine koshish nahi ki is liye main zaroor koshish kero ge
