Karachi Bloggers have Lunch

http://karachi.metblogs.com/archives/images/2007/01/DSC00999-thumb.JPGOn Thursday afternoon a number of Karachi Bloggers took a break from their hectic schedule to meet and have a great buffet lunch at Déjà Vu . This plan had been in the works for sometime since Sabahat Iqbal (Ifaqeer) & Omer Alvie (Olive Ream) were scheduled to be in Karachi in the start of January. We were just planning for a casual lunch of maybe 5-6 people but when the ball started to roll we had over 20 confirmations to attend and it turned into a really fun deal.

http://karachi.metblogs.com/archives/images/2007/01/DSC00994-thumb.JPGThe guest list was impressive to say the least, Sabahat Iqbal, Zaheer Kidvai, Sabeen Mahmud, Mansoor Adenwala, Rabayl Manzoor, Ali Khurshid, Omer Alvie, Fasial Khan, Insiya Syed, Hassan Salahudin, Jamal Ashiqain, Neoka, Madeeha Syed, Imtiaz Noor, Furqan Siddiqui (FurSid), Khawar Khan, Jawwad Farid & myself Awab Alvi. (I hope I have not missed someone)

http://karachi.metblogs.com/archives/images/2007/01/DSC00995-thumb.JPGThe luncheon was planned for a comfortable two hour session starting at 1:30pm which could have been enough for a simple lunch but the way the meeting went, we all felt the need for a longer session without any work related time constraints. The reservation was initially for a sit down lunch on a long table in one corner of the restaurant enough to accommodate the 20 odd blogger fraternity, while seated on the table we went through a round of introductions which were recorded by Khawer from Dawn News TV who happens to be a blogger and also decided to cover this event.

It was not long before a mutual consensus arose to move upstairs for a more casual seating arrangement as yelling across the table seemed like making a long distance phone call and a more casual setting would permit ample maneuvering space so that everyone could interact more on a personal level, Madeeha immediately arranged for the space literally kicking out a sweet couple having a casual cup of coffee, hence within minutes the upper floor was conquered by the Karachi Bloggers Convention.

http://karachi.metblogs.com/archives/images/2007/01/DSC00996-thumb.JPGThis meeting was amazing as it showed that a wide spectrum of people in Karachi have turned towards this form of digital journalism ultimately to share their own unique experiences with the world around them, be it on a personal level or even extending to an extreme politically motivated blogger, there seemed no topic that could not be discussed in the world of blogging Of all the twenty or so bloggers I am sure each individual present was an accomplished individual in his/her own respect and was pleasant to interact with.

http://karachi.metblogs.com/archives/images/2007/01/DSC00997-thumb.JPG I am aware that we may have missed out a larger number of bloggers who would have loved to join in the fun but this first meeting could be considered as a test trial, by looking at the level of enthusiasm seen here at the first meeting I am sure there would be many more gatherings like these to come in the near future.

What did you discuss by the way ??? Food , Fashion , Traffic Jams , Mullahs Bashing , Bush Bashing , Mush Bashing. After going through KMB and other blogs I just could deduce that.

How you people could spend whole afternoon on lunch (in week day) to meet some people you have never met before and most probably won’t meet in future :-)(sheer disappointment). (Okay , okay I am jealous :-)

We from Islamabad MB also had a similar occasion on the 7th of January in relation to the New Year. Unfortunatly most of the bloggers could not make it. However we are planning to arrange something in the future and would be happy to welcome bloggers from Karachi. Those of Karachi bloggers who are interested can email me so I can keep you guys in the loop.

Can my nick-name be added along with my name? as Furqan Siddiqui (FurSid) or just my nick as I’m identified with my nick usually.

    thanks :)

A suggestion: I think it would be nice if we add in the links covering the same event as some of the bloggers from the blogger-meet has covered it in their own style and flavor. Your say?
